Recently Noah Neilson, son of local shaper Tom Neilson, broke his neck.  He is doing okay, but needs help with medical bills.

There will be a surf contest, BBQ, and raffle to raise money for Noah July 17th behind Neilson Surf Shop 3501 S A1A, Cocoa Beach.  The contest starts at 8:00 AM, entry is $25.  So whether you want to surf the contest or just hang out at the beach to support a local in need, plan to attend!  You can pre register at the shop, by making a donation in the amount of the entry fee. Cash or Check (made out to Noah Neilson.) There will also be a pre registration party Friday the 16th at Neilson Surf Shop from 5-8pm  You can also get a raffle ticket for a sweet Neilson longboard at the shop.

"This will be a family event. So bring your family and friends, basically any and everyone you can, to hang out on the beach. We will be raffling off the Longboard as well as a ton of other goodies, including another surfboard, traction pads, leashes, coupons from a lot of local vendors, gift baskets, gift certificates, original artwork, ... "

The Cocoa Beach Surf Museum will hold it's Annual Waterman's Challenge on June 5th and 6th at the International Palms Resort (formerly Holiday Inn) in Cocoa Beach. We will have our luau on Saturday night with great food, music, and Hawaiian dancers.

Spectrum is holding a surf contest on May 29th 2010, the contest is being held at South Speccard Holland state park just south of melbourne beach.

The contest will start at 8 a.m. Saturday may 29th and if there is a lack of waves will possibly be postponed for the following weekend.

The contest is only $15.00 and is a fundraiser for helping with the oil clean up process.  There are plenty of prize packages for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd in each division.  Mens division will have a 1st place cash prize. $$$$

Local shaper Joe Shriver, passed away last Thursday.  He was a long time East Coast shaper and well known in the surfing community.  Jay and his family are going to have a memorial at the Indiatlantic boardwalk this Sunday at 2:00pm.  All people are welcome to show up with their Shriver Shapes!

Cocoa, FL - April 21, 2010 – Over 1,000 surfers showed up this weekend for the Boards & Waves Expo to see the latest innovations in surfboards and fins, watch shaping demos and attend educational seminars.  A first for Brevard County, the Expo was designed to educate surfers about surfboard shapes, design and performance. 
 
  Ten local surfboard shapers including Ricky Carroll, Chris Birch, Tom Neilson, Larry Mayo, & more were “talking story” both days about their boards while three exhibitors featured Hawaiian wood ala’ias.  New products from Surf King, RepelShark, Surf Perch, Doc Martin’s Sunblock, Skatezz, and Phix Doctor were featured at the Expo along with ten surf and beach-inspired artists in the special “Artist Alley” section of the show.  StandUpPaddle boards, homemade surfboard contest, recycled surfboard art program, live music by Gabe Gomez and Bootleg, and surfboard painting by Drew Brophy and Mark Longenecker added new twists to this year’s Expo.  An extra bonus was the screening of Bruce Walker’s The Payoff on a giant video screen at the Saturday night party sponsored by Primo Beer.
 
  “The reaction from the attendees, exhibitors, and the community has been very positive from the very beginning.  I already have ideas for a bigger and better Expo next year, as well as many requests to bring it to the beach,” said Dave Seehafer, organizer of the Expo and surf industry consultant.  Dave attributes much of the support to the locale, since the Space Coast is the East Coast surfing capitol as well as the home of 9-time world champion Kelly Slater.
 
   A portion of the proceeds benefited the Surfrider Foundation and the Cocoa Beach High Surf Team.  Sponsors included International Palms Resort, Melbourne International Airport, Surfers Village, R&D Inc/Ricky Carroll Surfboards, Primo Beer, DNA Energy Drink, and Verizon Wireless.

The Expo will be held next weekend, April 17th and 18th   from 10am-5pm both days.  It will feature some of the best surfboard designers, shapers and artists in the country including world renowned surfboard artist, Drew Brophy and nationally recognized local shaper, Ricky Carroll. Exhibitors of surfboards, fins, surf accessories, StandUpPaddle and other action sports products will be in attendance.

The event is open to the public.  A portion of the proceeds will benefit the Surfrider Foundation and the Cocoa Beach High Surf Team.

 Admission is $5.00 for adults, children under 10 are free.  Price includes (1) raffle ticket for giveaways.  Additional raffle tickets and Expo t-shirts can be purchased at the event.
