Heading up there end of July/early August, any breaks that stand out? (Flying into Portsmouth) Any surf shops that have a good quiver option for renting boards?
And will my 3/2 work or are we talking 4/3 with booties? ------------------------- Brevard Surf Report |

I should add, a left point break would be ideal...

I forwarded your question to my brothers on Jamboards.com
Here is the first reply from Tiri: That time frame is definitely 3/2 weather or trunks on a hot day. Plenty of breaks in that area. I know a few I'm happy to discuss if he wants to reach out but I'm sure there are others with better knowledge than me of that coast. I've just ridden the basic beach and obvious reef breaks around Hampton and Rye 20-30 minutes south of the airport. ------------------------- Dora Hates You |

Ive spent the last 2 months working up here. I brought a board and lots of rubber with. Its warming up now. A little colder water as you get into Maine. Some sick setups...there are a a couple lefts i discovered in between Rye and Hampton where I enjoyed getting some practice on the backhand while its been flat back down at home. Beautiful coast up here with a ton of potential. Surfed a rivermouth point in Souther Maine 2 weeks ago and I had super fun chest high waves basically to myself.

Check out the following website: Ralph's Pic of the Week.com.
You'll get lots of pics from the previous week. Most everyone is still in full suits and booties, no hoods or gloves. Lots of info there.
Also, check the Cinnamon Rainbows Surf Shop website.
Visited my brother up there on the Fourth of July one year. The water was barely 60 degrees.

It's really cold (I'm from Maine and have surfed up there a little - I didn't really start surfing till I moved here so it's been more on visits back and such). I don't think we can really relate to "cold water" in the same way - it's like make your bones ache cold but if you're young I'm sure it's more bearable . My dad was a fisherman and I can still remember going out with him offshore and seeing how dark green the water was there - which means really, really cold water.
There is some good surf - Ogunquit is a little warmer but I'm from further North, so have mostly been up around the Islands up there. I love it there, though, and there's a lot more to do up there than surf. It's getting pretty sharky up there, too, as I've heard from my fishing friends. Lots of seals (the seal population has exploded which means that the juvenile white population is following). ------------------------- [Feminism is] a socialist, anti-family, political movement that encourages women to leave their husbands, kill their children, practice witchcraft, destroy capitalism and become lesbians. ~Pat Robertson |

Plus the trout fishing is extraordinary. Hike up to a little mountain stream in Rangely, catch a few fish, and you're set. Much better vacation.

If you head south from Portsmouth on their equivalent on a1a ( think it's just called route 1 up there ) there's a few good point breaks. Basically a bit past the popularized area they call the wall in Hampton beach... it's been a longggh time so I don't recall the exact spots but just cruise and you'll see the cars parked people out there in the lineup. But it really goes off up there in winter time, cold as sht though!!!

Thank you! ?? praying for waves, took a mini surf trip to NSB today and there were some very occasional waist hi sets, but my Goodness a chest high+ point break would really refill the stokeometer
