passion window Chartres

One of the world's busier tourist attractions on a cold, drizzly January day. Much of the interior has been restored, with the stonework cleaned, then painted in a light color.  You can see unrestored stone around the window.  Exposing for the stained glass then editing to make the stonework show up took some effort.

The Charlemagne window, with the great king, knights, nasty infidels, and battle scenes, was more fun.  There was even Roland with his horn.

The town had a busy Saturday vegetable market with some of the best produce I'v ever seen.  More photos at Flickr.  Paris had a beautiful snowstorm, snow sticking to the iron balconies and trees.  Fun, except I was wearing sneakers, at least with good wool socks.

Not much of a photo, but take a look at that building at the end of the street.  The effect is as striking in real life as on the screen.

Lousy shot, but Versailles has an alligator.  It's a representation of "America" from the 1600s.  French sculptor, of course.
