Cannot be more excited. We get there Tuesday and leave following Monday. Haven't paddled out in well over a month. Forecast looks big to start. The board choices, the rum choices, the break choices, the food choices and even the nap in the hammock choices. So choice.

We're in Santa Teresa now. Staying until Friday. Haven't been here in a few years. The current swell is a little wonky but have been able to get plenty of waves. Lots of new little restaurants along the road. This is still my favorite part of the world.

It's changed a lot. I think there are four supermercados now. Still, suck rock behind roca mar is one of the greatest waves in the world to me.

Yep fun barrel at high tide, low tide watch out for the "spine". Stayed at Casa Cecelia on the beach just south of suck rock. Highly recommend that place to anyone going.

I used to camp at Playa Carmen back in the day. Has anyone met the rich German Drunken Andreas Schneider? He had some cabinas north of the liquor store but south of the ditch. fathered a son, Sebastian, who lives north by the grocery store. I helped him out back in the day and he gave me a house. He introduced me to a king pin was was building me a technical school. Maruchu Ramirez. Of course I sure it's changed drastically since 05. I check google earth a lot and the place looks like Va Beach.

This is my favorite spot in ST. It's south of the main road a 1/4 mile. Available at low tide. All sort of critters. The last time in it, as I was taking this pic, I saw a yellow "eel". When I got to a yellow bellied sea snake.

That's funny. Casa Cecelia's don has moved on to other endeavors in town. I see him there still.

On your way to Puntrenas, you should try to find Guacalillio. It's a cove like break where one can get out by jumping off a cliff. It's in between Tico Tico and the ferry. If any of that is still there.

I surfed it once. It was very good. I tried and failed to find three times since. Got very lost with the gps.

I missed the turn to go up to the top of the cliff and ended up at a dead end at a rivermouth. I thought it was Tarcoles since the other rivers weren't flowing yet. We turned around there and I saw a elevated ramp a few meters in and went to investigate. I went from the river and way into the brush that I didn't see where it ended. When the wind stopped blowing, the clacking of the palm frons(?) stopped and I heard drumming and chanting. There was a big azz croc floating at the river end. I started thinking Juju. On the way out, people were lined up along the road giving us stinkeye.

Funny you mention that croc. The one hanging out there on the time I did make it there was at least 15 feet. There were some ticos surfing there and we paddled out because they were there and we hadn't seen that croc yet. They were pretty indifferent to him. I was not.

One came out on me and a Tico from the river that feeds the N side. I look at the Tico and he shrugs. Told me "He lives here".

I camped up there for a couple days. You can walk along base at low tide. There was a hole going inside and I tried to get a mouthy Canadian to crawl in there because there was something glowing like a TV screen way back it it.
The wall face made me think Pyroclastic flow. It looked like there were burnt rocks encased cement.

I was catching the left right next to upwelling rock pile. A very good wave. Tomorrow it's on. I am going to try to get some drone footage. Forecast looks good.

Catch a wave and walk up. The surfing part is on the N side. During the rainy season, a river dumps into it.

So suck rock has been.good. It's about two feet overhead and the wave is not fast but it's not slow.

Double overhead today. Almost didn't make it out. 30 minutes fighting relentless sets. Got two waves all morning. One was good. The other was a monster that opened up for me for a couple of hundred yards as fast as I can surf. Rode a Bing bonzer synchronizer that is 7'4 and still could have used more foam. The biggest wave was my best wave and I don't typically equate size with quality. Coming home tomorrow. I'm tired. My shoulder feels like there is an ice pick in it and I had to spend some unexpected cash on an x Ray for the spill on the back road to cabuya.

Did you surf Cedros? That's a dicey wave breaking off a lava shelf.

The right at Cedros is dicey. The left is a super fun and easy wave. Surfed it two weeks ago at head high plus. The surf school guy pushing his clients in to waves was a downer though.

I saw a young kid run across the shelf and jump into a left, standing on his board in mid air.
At the river in cabuya is really perilous. At low tide there's pillars of rocks spattered up and down that area. I stayed at Fernandos just across the bridge for an extended time during raining season. I surfed before I saw the bottom then decided just to go over the mountain to Mal pais.

No. It wasn't really holding the wave. We surfed cabuya with two surf schools and a hundred others. It's a perfect wave that came in two wave sets every five minutes that everyone thought was theirs. I got a few but it was frustrating.

The drone footage never happened. My son hurt his wrist on the atv going down the back mountain road. Then there was the threat of rain. Then it was too early so I let him sleep, then he wanted to surf too and and then it collected dust. His one session was so far out because it was his first try. Turns out it was our only try. We lugged that thing all that way for nothing. Maybe next time.

Not the cemetery island. It's about a half a kilometer north. It's the point furthest out.

He's there everyday too. He actually succeeded in posting up on the peak and told us get out of his way because he was trying to make a living. That went over badly.

I took a wave he pushed one of his pupils into and they went straight so I went right. He paddled over to cut me off and establish his perimeter. Then my buddy took a wave in the same area. He then brought over the other instructor. They spread out. Then some tico kid that rips tick tacked past them at light speed. Keep in mind there are two wave sets every five minutes so after these events, all parties had plenty of time to give dirty looks, stare and talk shit. I wisely decided to paddle away but to little avail. The instructor seemed determined to paddle over to me to cut me off to prove some point but he never got there. I got a particularly long, soft right that I took in out frustration. I watched two other people "cut off" his students.

Go to roca mar to eat. That's suck rock out behind it. We saw Tom Brady and Giselle there when we were there. My son embarrassed me when asked for a selfie with them. I tried to explain that those two are in one of the few places that don't gush all over them but he said Brady was polite in his no.

Who needs Tom in the picture anyway?

Why does he have a surf school on a good break? Doesn't it make more sense to put them on some easy rollers?

The surf school is in Cabuya, not Suck Rock. Cabuya is a mellow, fat burger that anyone could have their first wave on. Suck Rock is a heavy beach break that is always at least head high and often bigger. Sometimes even much bigger but no matter how big, if you are patient and lucky, its makable.
