Subtropical Storm Andrea, May 8, '07. South Palm Beach County. For about 1.5 hours it was unbelievably big (bigger, even, than these photos) a few miles south of this spot. I was stupid enough to paddle out. Too scared to pull in until it dropped in size a bit, can't remember how many waves I backed out of. A buddy took off on a gargantuan face and tried to pull out at the last second, only to have the lip of the monster wave snatch his board. His leash broke and he almost drowned after going over the falls. The lifeguards lost a ski trying to get to him. It took him an hour and a half and two miles of swimming and getting pummeled to make it to shore. Next time, I'll be on the beach with a video camera.

Ohhhh-phelia

I remember catching day-after-day of this perfect swell. I think these pictures are from the first or 2nd day I surfed. I remember it being a 7 day swell, and I traveled for 5 of them from Orlando, each day going to a different spot and ended up surfing by myself for the tail end of the swell (before I knew better/had surfing friends)

This thread rocks! If I had anything of size, I'd post it.

Actually, I have one of Flo, when I drove from Orlando to Satellite just to watch (shattered arm)... but it's not much bigger than normal hurricane waves.

I know it doesn't touch what you guys are posting, but I'd love to keep this thread alive.

I love seeing the Florence pictures...

I got a hold of the guy who taught me how to surf (when I was 12) after not being in contact for 7 years- Thanks Myspace! We went surfing on big thursday... Best waves/reunion EVER.

Everytime I have a surfing dream, I swear it's always that same swell...

Ahhhhhhhh. Florence!

Katrina is by far the sickest I have ever seen the Gulf break, well over head and offshore with barrels galore. Only a few months till Hurricane Season 2009. Good for us and horrible for the rest.

Hey thanks for saving some of my photos for your epic memories sharpeye (the 2nd to last one above of Denis at the pier, and the one on the 1st page right under TSNoel, taken at Washington Ave in the cape). What great memories all these pics bring back thru the recent years. Great to look at when it's flat like this.

Hurricane Gabriel September 1989. Shot from the front door of what once was Natural Art Surf Shop in Satellite Beach (across the street of A1A). I remember a week of excellent surf.

I love it when the bombs show up over the dunes line of A1A in Satellite. I remember evacuating from Floyd, hauling butt back next morning and catching a view of feathery bombs from pineda all the way to Mel Bch. where I stopped and caught triple overheads all alone... watching back porches fall onto the beach lol! Wish I'd had a camera then, anybody got pics of Hurricane Floyd AKA the time Brevard dodged a bullet of destruction!? (1999)
