I'm hoping that this doesn't come across as shameless self-promotion, but I realize that it might. Anyways, the fact is that I'm just stoked. In addition to surfing, I've spent the last few years traveling around the world and across the country in what would amount to a grand beer tour, so this has been a long-time dream.

In any event, three weeks ago my wife, my business partner and I bought a pub/restaurant. It's been heaps of 16 hour days, but it's an absolute blast.

The point of this post is to say that if you have an ambition to do something, go for it. If you're looking to start your own business or buy an existing one, send me a PM and I'll tell you how we did it, and would be glad to assist in providing info on what it takes to start a company.

And... if you're looking for a place with tasty food, over 90 beers, and good sports on TV, come and say hi to me at Coasters Pub at the corner of A1A and Eau Gallie.

Congrats Dude!

Shameless self promotion of this variety is not only appropriate, but appreciated.

I hope you'll find a way to put some authentic Aussie meat pies on the menu (different flavor every day would be awesome).

Ban the Fosters and stock up on VB!

Costa Rican "Imperial" is now available in Brevard (hint hint).

If you can top that with Costa Rican "Pilsen" and ceviche I'll be camping on the doorstep when you open.

Make sure one of those big TV's is dedicated to full-time surf-porn.

If you ran your own designated-driver taxi service for beachside residents at closing time, that might help draw even more people.

Best of luck; the wife and I will be in soon.

The 2nd-Light party night is a winner of an idea too.

My wife has wanted to buy a bed and breakfast w/a pub and resturaunt on the beach, so I'm super jellous and will definitly stop by after a Mark Reality Session.

I've been reading customer surveys at my work alot lately and they have been proof possitive that a healthy surf lifestyle and the optimism and vibes that come with it can work in any business. Especially when you are helping people and establishing your brand. Smiles = Money = More Smiles = More Money!

Good luck!

What is this beer stuff you are talking about and why have 90 types when you could have just one?

Not really. Alcohol is "Nectar of the gods" to some. He speaks his own interpretation of what he perceives to be a truth. You seek your truth your way. I seek mine my own way. You may see the Sun rise in the East. I see the universe revolve around gravitation attractions due to mass and distance. East is just a relative positional vector that is defined by man, not by any book of God. It is all viewed in your own perspective. You can only be influenced by what you perceive to be right.

It is best perceived in my mind as...

...mmmmm beer.

I submit that those that feel so are already on the way to
problems. How many live on the street, lose a loved one,
destroy their liver and mind with this wonderful "nectar of
the gods"?

It ain't my religion that says so but experience in watching
others. Quite luckily I don't have an addictive personality..
... things come and they go but nothing is worth ruination.

Don't know that I've had the EKU28 in particular, but some of those high octane Belgium beers will mess you up and quickly. Was in Brussels once and found that out the hard way. Learned the next day that the alcohol content of the beer i was drinking was around 14%. The nice thing was that I didn't have a hangover the next morning, despite barely being able to walk the night before.

Nice selection, BTW.

BTW-I admire you
If this was me, the post would read  "I bought a bar"

Two weeks later, the post would be followed up with
"Now I am broke, out of business(from drinking my product), homeless, divorced, and fat"

Good for you.

The best advice I've ever heard from someone in the food/beverage business is to stay away from bartering. It may improve your life, but not your business. The best owner I ever saw often told me "nobody drinks free in my place." "I might put their tab on my personal credit card, but nobody, not even my parents eat or drink free."

At first I though it was crazy, but when you really think about it, people realize this is your livlihood when you treat it that way. especially your employees. Good service and a good product will get you far. (You've clearly got the product )

Good luck, and enjoy! Maybe my guys Zane Lamprey and Steve McKenna stop in... man I love that show.

Very cool.

We frequent the place, so here's hoping you'll increase the hours. The last few years the place has simply closed far too early. Hopefully you'll extend the evening hours so we can enjoy those tasty beers.

I hope you're bringing big John along with you as well.

Lastly - I hope you don't change the wings! The are pretty darn good!!

BUMP! Stopped in tonight with the wife.

Kona Porter, Dogfish IPA 60 min, and Fullers ESB are flowing.

Saw a couple of other forum folks wander in. Jeeper even said there was a rocket scientist on hand for consultation.

Dave, it's Delaware...Check your list. My wife and I have about 50 years total at your former place of business. Good luck man!

Thanks for stopping in, pompano; it was good meeting you and your wife!

Delaware, eh? I must have fat-fingered that one on the beer list (or I just don't know how to spell). I need to update the list anyway because I've added about 6 new beers this week. I think we're up to 97 different beers now. Imperial just came in today and we sold 5 bottles in a few hours. It doesn't taste quite as good in Indialantic as it does after a 3-hour surf session at Playa Negra, but brings back good memories nonetheless.

Burry, the hours are Tues-Thurs 11am-11pm, Fri-Sat 11am-12am and Sun 12pm-9pm. I'm working on the website. I'll let you know when the food menu is PDF'd. Butt... you could always stop by and snap some of your famous food and beer photos!

Dave,

Sorry to have missed you Saturday night, but I guess the owner deserves a break once in a while.

For the record, you sold at least two more Tropicals...

Note to self: Take the beeradvocate.com ratings with a grain of salt...

Edit: yes, I meant Imperials instead of Tropicals (but still wish it was Pilsen )

Sorry I missed you, wetspot. I normally would have been in, but unfortunately my grandmother is in the hospice unit at Weusthoff right now, so family first.

Hope everything was to your liking. We're not going to change a whole lot. We're fine-tuning the beer list and will be taking a look at additions to the menu in the coming months. Pompano and Havanabama were in over the past couple days. Both seemed really keen to the idea of having a 2ndlight get-together. I think it'd be a blast. Business gets pretty slow during the summer times (and we all know the Atlantic flattens out) so maybe some Saturday day/afternoon 2ndlight get-togethers might be in order!

Again, thanks for stopping by and I hope to catch you next time!

Excellent Dave! Coasters has always been on my top 5 list in Brevard. I brought the family in for wings on Friday night at our usual table in the back (for the kids). Joe knows the wife and I are hopheads so if there's a new IPA on tap, there's two on the table before I even ask. That Bells sure is good, I just wish I'd ordered another one before the keg ran out.

All the best with it!

I dropped in on Saturday night and had myself a couple of Franziskaner Hefe Dunkel 's. Good stuff and nice place. I shall return.

Wetspot, sorry I missed you there on Saturday. I owe you a couple of Imperials. Next time you go there on a weekend, give me a call.

Yeah those Imperials are selling like hot-cakes (even better, as we don't have hot cakes).

And paperklip, as a hop head, you'll be excited to know that I just received a keg of Dogfish Head 90 Minute IPA. As far as I know, we're the only ones in Central Florida to have it on tap. 9% alcohol -- wow. It's the priciest keg the pub's ever bought, so it ain't cheap; but it sure is good!

ah, that's good. He's as much a permanent fixture as the bar itself.
And don't worry about what I said about the banned guy, he was on zanax for stress and then drank. He fixed himself up by quiting Harris. lol

never get rid of Tucher. I have friends that visit from out of state who can't get it at all and always want to hit Coasters when they get here.

Wow! An 11-year-old thread. The internet never forgets!

Yeah, so far so good; thanks for asking. We started out in 2008 with 15 employees and now have two restaurants and 85ish members on the Coasters team!

I'm still at both places almost every day, but the long, grueling, exhausting days are mostly behind me thanks to some great managers.

And if anyone runs into any problems at either place, send me a message and I'll try to figure out how to correct the problem.

Here's a little advice from yer old uncle Slimy. Keep you condensers clean. Have your CO2 guy leave you a small bottle and then get a garden hose and cone nozzle. If attach the nozzle and cut it 6' long. hose clamp it to the bottle. Every month or 2, wire brush your condensers and blow them out. That will save you hundreds of dollars. Do NOT put filters on them.

Yeah, now with seven 5-ton units for cooling, four big commercial units to keep the walk-ins cool, two ice makers and 19 commercial refrigerators, I've got a crash course in HVAC experience. Now I have spidey senses in temp differentials between high and low side tubes, and keep a spare cap, relay and stat on hand in case they break. And they often do. Especially in July.
