The sh!t disturber in me can't help but post the latest attempt in State Park surf crowd control. As I pulled into Ft. Pierce State Park on Sunday I noticed "No Paddleboards (they mean SUPs) are now allowed south of the north boardwalk." For those not familiar with the break that means they can't surf in the area that 90% of the people now surf between the jetty and north about 300 yards.

How is it enforced? Park Rangers who patrol the beach will call you in or send you down depending on how far your trespassing and if you don't respond you can count on a police officer providing a welcome party when you decide to come in. Nice huh?

Apparently there were quite a few complaints levied by surfers about safety issues of SUPs to both Tallahasse and the local park office. So this rule was put into effect starting Sunday. I'm sure that the 150 surfers out on Saturday (that's right 150!) probably was a bit of an impetus to start the rule too!

Saw a guy at SBI awhile back clowning it through a full crowd out there. I agree, it ain't safe. Those guys do not have enough control of their boards in a wipeout and even if they do, usually their paddle is then lost in the mess.

Similar situation (sort of) : 50 cc scooters are not allowed on roads with speed limits greater than I believe 30 mph.

Got to agree with these sentiments sups should not be in crowded lineups.

when I was a kid we used to paddle across the inlet from South Hutchinson to North Hutchinson Island becaus it broke better on the north side and it was way too far to bike it.

The marine patrol used to try to catch us and often times the cops would be on the beach on the north side waiting for us to come in from our session.

It was a game of cat and pig I guess!   The slow ones always got busted.

They should be happy that people are using the park, and make a designated area for the sweepers.

Ever notice when one is in the line up all you hear is "heals to board, paddle to rail and splash!"?

Laugh all you want now SUP haters... once they pull this trick what's to stop them from pulling it on you later when $$ spending tourists complain, like in Daytona where there are "surf" zones. I remember when everyone I surfed with hated the LB's and wanted them banned because of "safety" issues. Another disgusting encroachment on personal liberties IMHO. Disclaimer before I get booed off the forum: I've evolved in 45 yrs from foam boogey boards to shortboards to longboards and now to SUP because of knee and hip issues... I just want to continue with fun in the surf as long as possible, does that make me a monster?

No, it makes you a boater and boats aren't allowed in the lineup.

This has been in effect since I started surfing in orange county Socal in the 80's...Unfortunately it has zero effect on tourists showing up at your beach.
