I can never get away from my fish for some reason. Its a 6'0 and I Rode it as a quad and threw in the fcs nubster to keep things tight in the tail. I'm 6'4 210lbs and never thought twice about busting out the 6'6 squash.
Anyone bust out something they havent ridden in a while? |

Dusted off the 6 foot 70's style single. Worked great in the peak of the swell. ------------------------- "Man is the only creature who refuses to be what he is" a.camus |

Didn't ride anything different. On Saturday I rode a 5'11" Lost V2 shortboard and had a blast. I hurt my foot towards the end of my session on Saturday so Sunday I rode my 7'6" FunShape for a more stabile platform. It actually turned out to be a good call and was catching the outside midmorning bombs at OA and making to the inside. ------------------------- Replace turf grass with native plants that don't need irrigation and synthetic fertilizers or chemicals that can go into our waterways and ocean |

a week ago when we were thinking it was gone I was on a 10' cruising waist high lines...As the week progressed I went to a 7'2" fun board, long lines catch the wave outside and down the line. Then as it got bigger and faster I went to my 6'4" Robert Strickland old school slasher..Sunday I was back on the fun board taking long lines again...

Saturday morning rode 8ft walden 2+1 sat. evening rode 9ft Local motion with the cutaway fin and caught the smoothest and biggest wave of my life to date, it was one of those way outside bombs... saw the elephant coming at me, thought to myself "i'll just paddle over it" as I moved parallel to the line avoiding the peak of the wave I hear a local surfer whistle at me to go, then go starts shouting GO GO GO! So here I am, now hastily turning my longboard to position myself, I scooch up high on the nose stroke as hard as I can plant my chin on the surfboard and surely enough the takeoff was smooth. I cruised down the face of this wave to what I would assume was easily 8 feet tall and I am standing straight up at a whopping 5'6 to see that this was the most perfect wave I've ever ridden. I eased my way slowly turning and working the wave to the beach, riding the closeout in all its glory. I couldn't be any happier.

I tried my new 6.0 Blunt out each day to see exactly what was possible with it.
Thursday - absolutely the right choice, had a blast on the first hints of the swell Friday - difficult to get past the outside sandbar, but did get a few fun head high waves Saturday - took my beatings on the Blunt, switched to my 9.0 to get outside, even that took 3 tries Sunday- Tried again on the Blunt, still too hard to get it outside, ended getting tumbled, took a nasty fin cut to my cheek and gave up lesson: 1. Blunts are great boards for small waves, not the best choice for long period larger swell in FL (Confirmed really, I already knew that) 2. Proteck fins are worth the expense. ------------------------- "The truth is incontrovertible. malice may attack it, ignorance may deride it, but in the end, there it is." -Sir Winston Churchill |

5'8 Sam Barker the whole time. Fins switched in and out:Switched between quad, thruster and different types of FCS IIs.I've been trying to get to figure out an "everyday board" since I haven't been surfing that long so I didn't want to change up and lose the feel.

Decided to mix it up a bit...
Saturday morning I paddled out the shortboard, 9' 0 Walden Mega Magic ...in the afternoon, with the dead calm winds and glassy swell, I paddled out on the longboard, 9' 0 Walden Mega Magic. Both boards seemed to work extremely well for me. I'm using the same thruster fin setup on both boards. It's a red checker... Ohh hell...both boards are shown in the picture below. ------------------------- Puerto Rico 11 - 24 - 2013 |

Longboard/funshape would have been more enjoyable at certain parts of that swell.
