It's tough to compare year to year with all the variables but it seems like there are more fish in the water, more seagulls and shorebirds, bigger flocks of pelicans. For years it seemed to be going in the opposite direction- especially the bird population. I hope it's a trend. Except for the jellies of course.

I was thinking the same thing about the skates.  I remember back many years ago, especially in the 80s and 90s, I always seemed to come across skates, but I can't remember the last time I stepped on one.  It was never a pleasant experience, but I was still wondering what ever happened to them.

but yeah, I havent seen / touched a skate in years. Really havent seen much ManOWar either in recent years - used to be all over the place. Whatever happened to all the fireflies that used to be in the area. They were everywhere

i wonder if the lack of skates has something to do with the ban on Goliath grouper(jewfish)......like when they banned the taking of redfish and it decimated the blue crab population? cause skate is goliath grouper candy!
