Sweet looking Board. Always liked the look of the Pod.  More shapers need to look at shifting the wide point back on their egg style boards put the meat right in the cockpit so to speak.

I Have been giving some thought to getting Ace in San Diego to build mea Bonzer. Ace was Mike Eatons Ghost shaper for years he knows how to make that Eaton style board better then anyone. What I would like him to do is shape it old style and do a 5 fin Bonzer fin set. 9 foot .  Wish I could still ride something like what you have there.   I'm old friends with Peter and the People at moonlight glassing.  We of couse will need a ride report once the surf picks up.

Certon,

I'm starting to get worried for you. You seem to be developing a serious addiction. You might need a second job soon.

Such beautiful boards! Really wish I'd stopped in at Mollusk when I was in SF a couple weeks ago.

You, are a dirty purveyor of porn.

Let me know if you like "flex" or "stiff" in your bamboo Bonzer fins.

Do those boards work well on our average crap or do you choose to ride them on the better days?

I was right.

the answer is Yes... but I have a feeling this one will be mostly ridden on Da BeTTa DaZe (both here and abroad).  we have several trips lined up where this one will be getting some toooooob time

edit: also, this particular Pod Bonzer has a flatter rocker by design for speed in weaker waves but will handle well in both point and hollow stuff (at least that's what I'm hoping)

I've had several bonzers now, Mayos and Campbell Bros. They do prefer a little juice to get them going. I find Larry's work a little better (the bottom contours aren't quite as pronounced) in average waves, but when there's some push the Campbell Bros are magical! Here's my current one, a 5'7" Russ Short. I've had 5 fin and 3 fin versions and I like the 3 fin best! The Octafish (Orange) is 5'8" & the 6'2" is a MiniMerk (purple). I haven't had a chance to ride either one. I'm addicted to bonzer porn....

When do you prefer the screw in front, as opposed to in back? I never really thought about that before.

for me it's personal preference cuz I can access the screw easier with a big driver, whereas the fin tends to get in the way with rear and I have to angle the tool or try to find a smaller one... I haven't noticed any performance difference

The screw placement can be a matter of preference.

But, a lot of boards, other than old school logs, have tails that are actually thinner than the depth of the box, so the box is shaved down from front to rear. So, , , , front screw tab. Because, , , , otherwise, , , , a rear screw tab will stick up out of the box by as much as 1/4 inch (+-). Looks funky. I've had guys buy my regular rear screw fins and then complain that I made the fin wrong (or something similar). I ask something like ", , , , so, you have a modern performance longboard, right, , , ,?" They say "Yes". I then ask ", , , , so, where is the screw tab on the fin that came with the board, , ,?" Yep, front screw.
