This happened Saturday on a routine late snap on a closeout section. Heard and felt a big pop, then all muscles in hamstring started firing and spasming. I had to get carried out of the water and up to the boardwalk. That night I had the cold chills and sweats. Pretty intense. My guess is that I was a little dehydrated and I didn't warm up and stretch well enough. Very similar to what Mick Fanning did, and everyone knows him for his warm up routines now.

Here's the MRI. The white area is tissue damage or fluid.

The hardest part was knowing that I was missing some of the best surf in years. Sunday was unreal and I sat at RC's for an hour mad at the world and looking like someone kicked my dog while pissing in my cornflakes.

I go to the orthopedic surgeon today to figure out the details for recovery. The pics of this type of surgery are pretty ugly. They go in just under the glut max to get to the detachment.

Accepting all prayers and positive vibrations.

I've had Lymphoma and Melanoma, but I've never had an injury even close to as bad as your's is. "Get well, soon" does not come close to being a proper wish for you. But, for what it's worth, Get Well, soon. With you being a surfer and, as such, being in a lot better shape than the Average Joe, we're sure that you will make a rapid recovery.

Heal up quick, Brother.

Keep us updated as you are able to.

There also appears to be significant tissue damage and/or excess fluid in the TTT regions (Taint, Testicles, Tip) <OUCH> puff puff, pass

Karma, who did you decide to go to? Talked to my PT bud I told you about and he confirmed the dude I saw, Dr. Hensel, is a good one. And he surfs. And remember its always good to get a second opinion. Good luck, DT

I can't believe how bad that is. I guess now is a good time to finally watch all of those highly rated tv shows you didn't have time for before.

I first tried to understand what I was looking at, then I gave up ... it's just too painful to see.

Best wishes to your speedy recovery.

Can I arrange a potted palm for your hospital room?

My only leg injuries were a wayward patella (kneecap) which, as the orthopaedist assured me, eventually wandered back, except when it doesn't; and some kind of scar tissue buildup in the calf due to cramps that invariably happened on the first wave when bodysurfing.  Years in Wyoming made that go away.

Best wishes with the doctor.  I know a really good one on the Kentucky-W Va. border.  She made a good living on coal miners and motorcycle crashes.
