Some fins, the rusty and Channel Islands fins for example, have slightly taller outside fins than other templates in their size range (s,m,l), but shorter center fins. Most tri-fin setups have all 3 fins the same height. What's the benefit to the Channel Islands/rusty style designs?

I ride my fish with a short 3rd fin. I like the little bit looser feel to it, kind of like a twin fin, with more stability in the turns.

Seems that the taller side fins would add a little bite on steep faces, and the smaller center fin balances that out... Basically a way to ride a bigger fin without things feeling too tight? It's not a big difference either way.. the large size AM2s are 4.73" on the sides and the center is 4.49. Pretty much all of the other thruster fins (except rustys I noticed) have the same heights all the way around.

Roberts center fin is also a hair bit smaller than the sides. |
