Does anyone have any current knowledge of how the local casino ship is operating in our waters?
Thanks

when you flushed the toilet on the party boat "the obsession" if you were quick enough you could run to the stern and see your poo and paper plume drift back behind the boat.

I believe they can throw insane amounts and types of trash and doodoo in international waters.

I'm pretty sure they all dump at sea.

I could be mistaken, but I don't think there are any sewage plants for cruise ships in the port.

New rule for party boaters, carpetbaggers, and touristicrats, if you excrete it you have to eat it.  Fl should have just stuck to agriculture.

General legal limit is discharge 4 miles from shore, minimal treatment.  Lots of caveats to that rule too.  https://www.epa.gov/vessels-marinas-and-ports/vessel-sewage-discharges-statutes-regulations-and-related-laws-and

Some years ago, it was negotiated that the local (Port Canaveral) casino boats would double that and discharge 8 miles out.  Don't know the current status of that.

Here's FDEP take.  https://floridadep.gov/water/domestic-wastewater/content/deps-gambling-vessel-registration-program

I remember protesting the royal carribean adding a new ship to canaveral.....it was one of the "Enchantment of the Seas. Harmony of the Seas. Majesty of the Seas." but we called it the correct name "POLLUTER OF THE SEAS!"

Sean O'hare paddled out into the channel with a megaphone wearing a duck suit and yelled at it, coast guard patrols corralled him back towards shore.....I believe the ship was mooned as well lol

The Florida Clean Oceans Act was passed in 2008 to prevent casino boats from dumping sewage. They have to pump out at the ports in Florida. However, enforcement was not funded so who knows. Here is the current statute: LINK

Thanks Greg.

from your link I read:

(e)?Does not apply to any gambling vessel that annually verifies to the department that it operates a marine waste treatment system that produces sterile, clear, and odorless reuse water without generating solid waste and that eliminates the need to pump out or dump wastewater.

I'm still waiting for a reply from the casino ship ( at Cape Canaveral) who I contacted yesterday to find out what "their answers" are to my questions about their discharges. I'm just trying to get informed about this particular vessel.

Thanks again everyone!

Polluter of the Seas? This level of "pollution" is negligible folks. Should we remove all fish from the sea because they do the same? Let's spend our time and effort on something that matters.

Obviously, you've never had a single slimey sesh with half decayed turds floating just below the surface.. must not surf much around here?  That's what they said 'bout the river, how do we like it now??????

Would you say the same if we dumped the sewage from Cocoa Beach four miles out every week?

Sorry, but your philosophy is the reason there is a giant island of plastic trash in the Pacific.

I've damn near been hospitalized by severe sinus infections over the last four years and they appeared after surfing. And no, the bacterial load wasn't high due to birds in the area.

Yeah, the cows on the St. Johns Marsh from Lake Monroe to 520 are super good for water quality.

That water dumped out of C54 after Irma was all pristine too, practically distilled.

Your rules for partyboats and carpetbaggers are fine but not all the ag has exactly been tops on natural resource stewardship either.

Current algae bloom in BRL and IRL is not from the sewage spills. It is nutrient loads from all the runoff last year fueling huge plankton growth.  Sewage spills were a small part of the total nutrient load last year. They contribute for sure but the sewage spills alone would not be enough to fuel the magnitude or spatial extent of this bloom that we are seeing. The worst part is that the current super sunny and rain free weather is fueling max growth but not supplying any new nutrients. No new nutrients would be good except that if the bloom runs out of food and collapses all of a sudden then we have an oxygen crash and massive kill like in March 2016.

Human poop and fish poop aren't the same. Especially near shore.

No, I've never surfed the river. I've had dreams about it, though. And I've never seen a cruise ship in there either, unless you consider that dinner boat deal.

The effect of dumping a little pee and poo 4 miles offshore on the bacterial load in the surf zone is negligible compared to terrestrial component. If you want to put your duck suit on about it more power, I'd save mine for runoff concerns.

Both are an issue, so I will be concerned with both.

There are more people on the cruise ships than live in Cocoa Beach, hence my comment. That isn't a little pee and poo.
