This may sound ignorant but is there really a problem with dumping natural human waste far offshore away from land masses?  Human waste and plastic and other garbage are not the same thing.  Every being on this earth poops and the natural process is to return it to the earth.  Obviously,  I don’t want to swim in concentrated shiit but dumping natural wate far offshore shouldn’t be an issue right?  When I’m out fishing and I have to go either one or two guess where I go? Right in the water.  Does that mean I toss my food wrapper or birds nest of mono out there too?  Of course not.

I believe they can also dump shower, sink, any type of wash or "grey water". If ground up they can dump almost anything except plastic(but tons of plastic still makes it out) including metal, glass and paper, 3 miles from shore as long as it is ground to less than an inch. Almost anything but plastic can be dumped beyond 25 miles whole.

There is a difference between a bird  or wale pooping and a cruise ship dumping about 300+ flushes of drunk-huamn waste all in one spot.

This issue was forefront for Surfrider SI back in 2006. Here's a few protest pics. (I'm still looking for the one of Sean in a duck suit).

and one throwback just for the sake of it - with Sean Tomson and BUS (plus Andy, Dave, Joe, Roger, and Angie)!

Nothing ignorant about that question sarasotasurfer. Sure, it's not an appetizing thought, but casino ship dumping has zero effect on near shore water quality. Let's be environmentalists not alarmists. That provides more credibility to our arguments when it really matters.

Surfcaster is just flat out wrong on this. Yes, it is an infinitesimal amount when thinking about sewage dumped compared to the ocean, but dumping doesn't always mix well, or sink, and only three miles from shore (if they follow the law) can still be a problem. Ask those surfers and swimmers who got staph infections about if we should be alarmed. I've heard surfers complain about the raw sewage smell around Cape Canaveral when the boats are out, and have smelled it myself. And at one point there were seven gambling boats around Florida, all dumping sewage. Add to that the risk of algae blooms due to the elevated nitrogen in the water.
