I am surprised no one has commented yet. It is supposed to be 8-13' and clean all the way down to the treasure coast mid week.

...Now I see the other thread on the swell. I am a little slow.

Surfline's forecasting has been kind of unstable, new beta not exactly consistent with old format.  Wind forecast is a bit difficult a week out.  But the period is amazing.   Wieland update today.

I am newer to this sport than most on this forum, so I am seeking some education regarding how at 16 seconds why this won't be massive close outs? I realize north angle on the swell will certainly help, but does it eliminate the close out factor? Or is it a case of "only time will tell" phenomenon?  Regardless, I'm sure there will be a fun window somewhere.  And I'm aiming for the leftovers, as 12 foot is not my gig.  But props to those who can!

You hit the nail on the head. Nearly everywhere will be closed out. Florida's beach breaks can't really handle long period swells.

For a good time in Florida, 5ft@10 seconds with an ENE, mixed or SE swell is all you need.

It's Florida. After over 50 years of surfing here, the one certainty is there is no certainty. Make sure your wax is fresh and then go to the beach and look. And, don't get too stoked or too bummed on what may come. Too many variables - wind, tide, swell direction, etc. Florida is (almost) always a surprise.

Forerunners already showing up at St. Auggie. The pic above (courtesy of Surf-Station) shows a wave that reminded me of the waves the Joaqin swell brought to NFl

To Garcia's point variables include:

  • should be daylight
  • tide
  • wind
  • swell period
  • swell size
  • swell direction
  • work schedule, apointments, in jail...
  • fitness level, mental stability
  • access to surf, transportation...
And more!  Ain't surfing grand!

Since when does mental stability have any regards to go surf or not? You mean mental instability? LOL.

With a swell period as long as 16 seconds it’s definitely worth the drive up to Matanzas inlet just south of St Augustine. While it’ll be closing out most places those shoals extending way out will allow it to peel nicely.
