The wind conditions up here the past few days seemed like a perfect refracto set up for down south.

Did it pan out? Would love to see some pics.

Ummmm, , , , , the "elephants" on the horizon are a mirage, and not a swell. The right amount of chop, coupled with the correct atmospheric conditions results in a magnified image of the chop, that is just over the horizon, being seen as our "elephants".

There's an odd reverse of this, on the central gulf side at times. Hard SE and SSE winds end up blowing a refraction of sorts up to the twin piers region, and "above."

I remember years ago noticing the Elephants marching northward and driving up to Manatee and scoring. The winds may be slightly offshore, but the south swell comes bending in. Not too bad, either. Chest high or better some times.

It was OK in Central PBC. If you didn't drive, you didn't miss anything.

7.2 feet at 10 seconds at the 20 with a mean wave direction from the North North East.

That's some chop.

Kevin, if that was you with the Pelican Crew at the "Public Beach" during the morning sesh, I ended up hanging at the bar afterwards for some lunch and a couple of Modelos. By the time I was ready to paddle back out around 3pm, the wind turned straight north and junked it up a bit, but it seemed to push up the swell quite a bit! Caught a few more solid lefts before heading back home to Satty Beach.

Here's a "sort of elephants" shot from Sea Gull. It was a pretty big day, maximum zoom, taken from crossover and at about 30 degrees to the south.
