good size down there now but not that big of a swell for that to happen, imo. Thoughts and prayer... wonder what happened exactly.

Rising swell and the small paddle out zone against the cliffs might have contributed to it. Post a link if you find one. RIP

At Double overhead on the sets at k59 the swell closes out and fills the bay leaving no beach at high tide in an area called slaughterhouse so sorry to hear this news. Sincere condolences to all.

I've got nothing new on the individual. But there were multiple firsthand accounts. From what I understand it happened at slaughterhouse.

I googled it and have found nothing. If anybody has any details, they would be much appreciated. The slaughterhouse can be deadly on a big swell. I got denied on a particularly big swell and got lucky coming in. Ended up going to Sunzal and had an epic double overhead plus day. K-59 cannot handle it that big and the slaughterhouse looks as scary as it is on those days.

This is from my friend Walter, who runs K-Lodge at K59 - El Salvador Surf Camp

Sean mcCarthy was an awesome dude super polite and nice so what we think happened is that he had a seizure as he had history of epilepsy and he maybe forgot take his meds and had an episode while surfing. Unfortunately the currents where strong and the waves were very solid so once he sank he moved fast down the point underwater so it was hard ro help him and he didn't make it. The coroner will confirm our suspicions most likely cuz theres no other explanation as he colapse while hanging on his board. Is either this or a heart attack. He didn't hit bottom or his board.

Sad but I think the last thing he ever did in his life was ride a wave. And had a good time the days prior his demise. If u ask me thats a great way to go all and all. So we all have our day assigned so in my opinion is be at peace and enjoy as much as we can.
