LOS ANGELES - Dick Dale, whose pounding, blaringly loud power-chord instrumentals on songs like "Miserlou" and "Let's Go Trippin'" earned him the title King of the Surf Guitar, has died at age 81. His former bassist Sam Bolle says Dick Dale passed away Saturday night. No other details were available.

One of the best beginnings to a show I have ever seen ...Sebastian Beach Inn, decades ago, not sure if it was planned , I do not think so, but on his opening riff at sunset NASA launched a rocket or shuttle (not sure)...It was amazing to watch with a perfect type of music for a launch. The crowd went crazy, I even think the band was stunned as well at what they were seeing... He was an amazing musician and his son played the drums really well His son had his own drum kit next to the main drummer....Great show, great music good memories....So long Dick (and SBI). I think he strung his guitar backwards? traditional EADGBE was EBGDAE??

^Yeah, he just flipped it over without restringing, just like Elizabeth Cotten. Give it a try sometime. Demonstrates the innate superiority of lefties, excluding goofy footers of course...
