Who's gotten it? How long are you out of the water (they say 2 weeks)? Worth it? Good experiences/ bad experiences? I've done the research and I've committed. Getting it May 22. Would love to hear everyones thoughts!

I haven't, but it's been at the back of my mind. Make sure you've got a really good doc with a really good track record.

I had it done 16 yrs ago for astigmatism. Dr. Monnet Florida eye associate. Great decision and great experience. I was out of the water 3 weeks to be safe. Cost was roughly 2500 per eye back then and my insurance didn't cover. Definitely do the research on the Dr. It smells like burnt hair when having it done. The procedure is fast and painless. It took about 5 to 10 minutes if I remember correctly and I had 20/20 immediately after.I'd recommend it.

Check out lasik sucks for you .com
Don't do it unless you fall within the parameters
Of being an excellent candidate not just
Ideal.Florida eye test
For free and tells you straight up.
Don't walk but run away from clinics with sales guys
that Won't offer free testing or offer a discount
If u pay for screening testing that otherwise free at other
Ethical Clinics.
Remember this is a money maker for shady clinics
That care more about bottom line than
Human equation. Do your research.
If you do it......
PRK resurfacing is better for people who do
Sports. One eye at a time month intervals.

Quoting our eye surgeon."We use to operate
On everyone until we realized individuals with high
Mypopia(sp?) or stigmatism would be left with
Greater complication than if they never
Did the elective procedure to begin with"!
(Dry eye,halos,loss quality vision, starbursts)

Thanks everyone. I'm getting it done at LasikPlus in Altamonte Springs. They have awesome reviews. They do a ton of Lasik procedures but this is a good thing- the doctors all have 25yrs + experience. With my insurance the whole procedure (both eyes) is 1500. Not a lot of money to get perfect vision. The main thing Im worried about is getting back in the water. Will probably wait more than 2 weeks like some of you mentioned. Anyone have experience with infections after the procedure?

I had PRK 25 years ago and no regrets. 20/400 ----> 20/15. LASIK was a new thing back then, also the risk of the corneal flap moving wasn't worth the risk to me. Stayed out of the water for about 3 weeks. If you get an eye infection, you're f--ked.

With advancing age comes fluctuations in vision, probably in part because I'm nearsighted anyway. Contact lens prescription peaked at -6, one eye is now down to -4.25. Of course you aren't supposed to use contacts in the water.

I've used my contacts for years while surfing. I started using them in my early 30s after moving here. Not only can I see sets rolling in sharply the brand I use has UV blocking and my eyes feel the benefits. I really think they countered pterygium growth I was experiencing in California.

That said as I've aged floaters are a pain. The lasik sounds sweet.

UPDATE: holy moly. they lasered my god damn eye balls (literally). i smelled the burning flesh. it was pretty gnarly, i was squirming and sweating. said and done though and now I have 20 20. Best investment ever. Doctor said wait two weeks then im good to surf. She said no goggles or glasses for surfing, shes more worried about them falling off and hitting me in the eye. water is fine. Cheers to getting tubed and being able to see the exit!

Might sound silly but don't try to take your non-existing contacts out at the end of the day. Old habits die hard. Congrats on the vision, truly amazing procedure.
