Northern Mozambique almost never gets hurricanes; just got one (they're south of the equator). India is being hit by an extremely early season category-4. We have a little disturbance, early.
The early forecasts for this season were for slightly below average activity (Colorado State). On a world basis, it's starting to look weird. z
FPL is getting interested in undergrounding power lines, more or less the same sort that Vero Beach underground after the 2004 hurricanes. Above-ground lines running along the edges of back yards failed like crazy and were hard to maintain. FPL seems to have fun the same after Irma.

Mozambique experiences TC landfall about once every four years. You said specifically northern Mozambique and hurricane, which would occur less frequently. Not sure what your definition of "almost never" is, but tropical cyclone landfall in Mozambique is fairly common, as are weak tropical waves in Florida in May. Lastly, underground power lines are WAY harder to maintain than overhead, fortunately it is required less often. Bottom line is we're probably not seeing the prelude to Armageddon here. Rest easy and keep your board waxed!

Sadly, history in the making: NOAA's historical database has no record of a #hurricane strength #tropical cyclone landfall in northern Mozambique's Cabo Delgado province. #Kenneth currently at Cat. 4 intensity, per JTWC, with landfall later today.
It seems to have been a near unique event for so far north.
Japan notably prefers above ground power lines much of the time, figuring they are easier to fix after storms and earthquakes. England seem almost maniacal about burial.
