Have a small pocket of time 1 or 2 days of early am or later pm surf. Based in Mission Valley.

1. Best place to rent an LB
2. Best quick spot for a LB session, dont need the best wave at all, something w/ ease of access/parking, lesser crowd etc

thanks all!

Encinitas/Carlsbad- any local shop, go to Ponto, So. Carlsbad. pretty consistent, you can get lost amongst regular folks and get your waves, everybody happy! Dig it and enjoy

Water temps are still in the low to mid 60s! Take a sealed 3/2. I always took my booties! Ya, Cardiff Reef and Swamis is not too far north.

If you want a really cool , on the ocean experience with uncrowded surf.... check out PB's http://crystalpier.com/cottages.php pricey but a unique experience living over the ocean, fishing from your backyard deck.

Windansea was my fav spot when I visited a couple times. There are other spots along those rocks as well, but its best to go with some one knowledgable. What is cool about there is the free parking. I never had a problem finding parking. La Jolla Shores has a ton of room also but that is where the beginner crowd goes. Blacks if you looking for something bigger and more challenging. Ocean Beach has tons of room as well along with the sunset cliffs further south. San Diego is a cool place to be for a surfer. So many options. Yes, can get crowded but also has a lot of special spots. I need to go back. My sister lives in OB a few blocks from the beach. I recommended tourmaline as you mentioned longboarding and wave quality didn't have to be the best. Check that place out, you may like it.

Along the same lines my son is going to be staying near Dana Point for a week in June. Any suggestions for a board rental source or must surf spots I can pass along?

went to tourmaline, good people, but lots of them, thanks for all the tips.
Rented board from Mitches in La Jolla, good shop good price and good people. First went to Birds at Ocean Beach for a board and price was not right and no "real" longboards for rent. Should of went to Birds Shed inland a bit and used one of the classics long boards he has. Surf was pretty small 2 to 3
