What a tease, I just got back from Costa Rica and no surf to use my newfound paddle muscles!

I remember a bad one in the late 90s. Worst one in 20 years for sure.

1998 (year of the fires) was the absolute worst!... pancake flat, brown water (constant offshores) and smoke..... this year has sucked though. Look for a whale fart swell the end of the month

So if you are a surfer I wish you the prosperity that allows you more time to pursue the salt water dream, and the true happiness that comes from warm water, clean waves and the companionship of your fellow surfers. If you are an internet troll just spewing bs then f off.

^^ Got to suck it up and drive, scored overhead waves in Florida last weekend for solid 2 days, could not go on another surf trip via plane, (just did one to SD last month) so I took what was local to Florida, Spent about $100 total Gas/camping , brought all my food, water and beers with me...watched 15 foot faces breaking way outside a certain jetty that had no takers, would need to be towed in but no one was attempting it...R.I.P. the 67 year old who drown last weekend. Selling the dual sport/enduro Motorcycle (Suzuki DRZ400S) soon and getting a jet ski...always looking for company and share expenses, once the jet ski is bought will need someone to switch off driving/surfing with...Next swell in that area I'll hit you up Plan B, hopefully with a ski in tow.

I surfed RiceBowls last week. 4 ft 20+ seconds of swell on the buoy. First time out there...mostly shoulder hopped rights. The lefts were BIG and jacked up quickly...

HA... nice. I considered heading over there, but I thought the direction would be wrong (mostly the wind)

I don't know about that, but Cocoa Beach has had algae along the shore for more than a month now.

Actually, I did hear about the seaweed, it's said to stretch from the Gulf to Africa, but they also said it was Sargasso and that it was slimy and smelled bad, which Sargasso is neither. So who knows?

Nice. I chose fishing offshore over spending 10 hrs in the car..... Buddy I fished with is from P-Cola and he had some footage his friends sent. I was pretty surprised how fun it looked across the inlet, but seas were flat, weather was nice, beer was cold, and snapper were chewing so I wasnt too upset.

So this is a trick thread? This is a really good summer or somewhere in between?

we are in a solar minimum, and yes, that has classically translated into a piss poor summer for surf. Some of the years mentioned above are also juxtapose solar minimums. However, the winters provided some really good surf, but unfortunately, really cold temperatures, like freezing. Remember the three days of freezing temps? Yup, that was the last solar minimum. Just a note, the "tidal" influences on the sun look to prolong the minimum, so all bets are off as far as what typical will be for a while, like years.

We all know that summers are flat in FL, it's a given. Even a "good" summer here is pretty miserable. Good waves are always a plane ticket away. The South PAC has been pumping since May...a trip to any south/west facing part of the America's is a no brainer. Take at least a couple well placed trips during the summer and you're good...no wave jonesing needed. During the summer my starting position is that I will not surf in FL for ~ 3 months.

The irony of summer: no waves, out of shape, then a hurricane swell hits and we get to struggle bus it to the outside.
