2018 surfboard imports hit 916,246, up from 102,850 in 2004, when the U.S. Census Bureau started collecting that trade data. Those imported surfboards now account for upwards of 90% of sales in the small and slow-growing domestic market, experts said.

90% of the boards from China are garbage anyway! Unfortunately people are set on buying cheap disposable crap....and the whole Firewire thing: made in Thailand, sold at domestic built prices so they can have such high margins, allowing them to have their boards on consignment, crushing domestic built boards (who cant afford to have 2 dozen boards sitting in a shop without getting paid)........ Even If you don't support your local shaper, AT LEAST ride boards made by someone who actually surfs!

Yep, especially one that has that little wording below the shaper's sig " for name " IMHO one of most amazing things is to look at that and think damm this board was really made custom for me!

get up early and go surf - it'll make that hangover go away and/or make the workday more tolerable :)

Not sure if this is what you were asking, from the article "California-based Firewire, backed by surf superstar Kelly Slater, moved production of its $500 to $1,000-plus surfboards to Thailand after shuttering U.S. manufacturing in 2008."

Buy local. I'm curious if "Helium" tech is just a way to save on shipping cost.
