Headed North...
.....leaving Morro Bay and The Rock behind.
A little further north I checked out Cayucos Pier.
"They" say "slow easy lefts" with the south side of the pier for LB'ers.
...bu not today.

With nothing to stay for...
...further along it was chilly and foggy, but looking like it might have potential.

Sleeper waves??
....yes I wish.

Got through the fog and the 60 degree weather...
....and found a beautiful coastline.

beautiful drive....
....and my first sighting of "other sea life" in the water.
Sea Lions

From the cliffs.
That's me waving at you guys.

Again from the cliffs ... (OK, I had to)

I have no idea what they were digging for but they kept putting small bits of something into the bucket. They were doing this when I arrived, never moved from that spot, and were still doing the same when I left a half hour later.

One of the $$$ cars at the castle...

And more mile up the coast...
... Elephant seals...

Just a baby, but plenty big

A couple adults "playing" in the water

It's hard to describe the size with the picture,...
....but if you could only realize how big they truly are.

Never saw any sings of surfing...
....lots of rocks and cliffs.
And then I had a "white knuckle" drive.
I was told the drive along the coast, from Morro Bay to Big Sur, would be pretty and along the cliffs, but would take longer. Little did I know...
....about 100 miles and took me over 3 hours.

20-30mph winds with winding twisty turns next to cliffs on the northbound and on the southbound side .... a drop-off. Sometimes only a 5' shoulder ... sometimes less. Sometimes a guard rail, sometimes not. I'm glad I was northbound. I don't think I want to do that drive again ... especially going south.

I sometimes work at heights at the Cape, but safely with a harness. Driving along there gave me the "willies".... Call me a "sissy boy" or what you want. Standing on the cliffs .... how high? I have no idea ... hundreds and hundreds of feet and way high. No guardrail, a sheer drop-off and windy. A slip or a gust of wind and .....

Sand Dollar Beach in the middle of the drive is reported to be pretty good when there are waves.

Beautiful...
.... but that edge...

I had reports from the north,.....
.... so I knew not to expect much.
Arrived at ....

But....nothing.

Just north of Big Sur looking back

Drove through Carmel. Seems like a nice mellow town.
Asilomer on the Monterey peninsular

Asilomer was wind blown, 20-25mph and crap...

Found a campground inland for the night...

Love those shots, SS! Those 2 digging in the sand really made me LOL! literally! Thanks, I needed that after
a rough first day of school..... Too bad NO WAVES! My sister says it's one of the worse summers for waves that
she ever remembers.

Sissy boy, you have a great eye for pictures. I make a quick sweep of the first page to see if you put up new stuff when I come home from work every day. Hold on a little longer, you should get some swell soon, the onshores should slowly turn more Northerly in a couple of days.

Nice pictures of the seals and sea lions. But it is always very sad to see pictures of beached whales. Did you report those two to the marine patrol?

Glad you are finally getting some waves. Stay warm.

The fat couple on the beach were digging for clams.  It's a favorite activity in Central California, especially Pismo.

And this photo:

That's Asilomar Beach, the only place a surfer has ever been killed in California from a Great White.  That sounds odd, but it's true.  There are eleven confirmed deaths by GW in CA, and of those, only one was a surfer.  And he was a kneeboarder (with flippers and a swallow-tail board, so it seems that he looked a lot like a seal.  I was there a few days later and it was freaky to think about it.  I was a kid.

But no standup surfer has ever been killed by a GW in CA.  Only swimmers, one kneeboarder, a kayaker, and the rest were divers.

You have been taking incredible photos.

Thanks for sharing.

GREAT pictures and travel log Sunrise!!!!!

As for the couple on the beach!!!

Judging by the BUTT crack he has to be a plumber trying to find the hole where the TIDE leaks out of !!! She is his helper mixing up some STOP LEAK!!!

P.C.H. what a ride!!!!

looks like a nice trip, waves or not.

It's definitely on the list.

I have driven from San Fran to halfway up Oregon along the coast.

Asilomar's neat. Same architect as the Hearst Castle but much more rustic--it started out as a YMCA camp. The local dunes used to be mined for sand, but around fifteen years ago, a big restoration project recreated the dune vegetation.
