Harry, thanks for the support. Speaking of which, please show your aloha spirit and come to the Cove this Sunday afternoon to support our friend Brian Esmond. Eroc and myself along with Drift Session and Ricky Carroll's band are trying to raise money for Brian and his family. Brian recently had a cancerous tumor removed from his brain and is currently under chemotherapy. Three days after leaving the hospital, Brian sang his heart out for three hours as our front man at a Drift Session gig. He is a real inspiration. Mahalo nui loa, Justin

What a great cause. He is a good guy and deserves a helping hand in this difficult time. Please post the details of the event ASAP. Good luck Brian!

The fundraiser starts at 3:00 on Sunday at The Cove.(check out the full page add for the Esmond family in the newest Beachside Resident) I was pounding the pavement today to get some support from some local businesses in the surf community. Catalyst surf shop, Sand Bar, Boardwalk Burrito and Balsa Bill were nice enough to donate some stuff. Any chance we can get some palms for the raffle? Look forward to seeing you at the Cove!

Anybody have a copy of the Beachside Resident ad they could scan and post?

c'mon on out today. If one the bands drummer (who is a damn good shaper) is willing to play drums with a busted up arm, then you can come out to help a fellow surfer.

If this is the Brian that I used to surf with long ago and used to hangout with Eric Encinyat (spelling) and worked as a limo driver at the cove (worked at the old Sizzler on Eau Gallie Causeway before that) can someone please pass my info. on to him and my good thoughts? I used to surf 2nd light with he and Eric in the early lat 80's and early 90's with my buddy Jon (longboarder who is also fighting cancer right now). My name is Drew Phelps and my e-mail address is drewcifer5@yahoo.com. I wish Brian the best and hope all is well. I live in San Diego and would certainly show up if I were in Brevard still. Thanks!

You know, I saw his picture in "The Resident" (on the flyer for the fundraiser), and I thought, long-haired Brian? From the Cove? Haven't seen him since I moved away from Satellite many moons ago. Used to surf with us at Park Ave. Thanks for jogging my memory Drew.
Sorry I missed this, I had to work Sunday. How did it go?
Prayers to you my brother. - Jim V

Hey Jim, this is just my guess that it's him...I'm pretty sure it's him but nobody has confirmed to me yet and I can't see any pictures of him anywhere? Can anyone tell me? If you have a way of contacting him I'd love to catch back up with him..Jim do I know you?

I never heard from anyone but please pass on my good thoughts to Brian and I hope to catch up with him again one of these days (I live in san diego). My best friend Jon who's fighting Lymphoma happened to see Brian right before they both happened to be diagnosed (slightly different months). I spoke to Jon the other day and he sends his wishes too to a speedy recovery.

With the help of our local beach community and friends of the Esmond Family, the fundraiser held at the Cove Restaurant was a success.  The organisers of the event managed to raise over $3000 for Brian.  On behalf of Drift Session, I would like to thank the following for their donations:  The Cove, Enigma, Da Kines,Bunky's, Texas Roadhouse, La Cabana, Sandbar, Boardwalk Burrito, Catalyst Surf Shop, Spectrum Surf Shop, Reef Brazil, ME TIKI,Balsa Bill, Ricky Carroll, Lady and the Tramps and Mike from New School Dropouts.  To everyone who attended, we all experienced a real show of Aloha spirit within our surf community.

Blessings,

MeleAloha

One cool evening I was sitting around a bonfire down in Baja listening to the Hawaiian son-in-law and grandson of our friend from San Diego. The father was playing guitar while his son strummed along on his uke. It has been 8 years and many Hawaiian songs later that I find myself a dedicated student to Ki ho 'alu or Hawaiian slack key guitar.
