My wife is determined that we have shutters this year, so, I am in the market. Anybody know of a good supplier and installer? I want something that I can just close up (like shutters, but NOT rolldowns; I have an old style Cracker house) where possible. I know I will need panels for some windows, but, I dont want to go thru a day-long installation and removal process if I dont have to. Im looking for somebody that is honest, reputable, does quality work and will stand behind the product and the installation (arent we all). (Sorry about the lack of apostrophes; the key is broken and a new kybd is on order.) Thanks for the help.

The aluminum panels that secure via permanently installed posts with wingnuts are quick and easy, especially with a wingnut driver. Had mine up in under an hour before Irma. The insurance discount I received will completely pay for my panels within 4 years. Less if I had used steel.... but the aluminum ones are lighter, safer to install, and wont rust like the steel ones do.

I would recommend who I used because their installers were top notch and solid people... but the owner of the company pissed me off. Yeah, I know. I was no help at all.

Not so, you were a help and thanks for that. I have 32 windows in my house (we built the house without A/C), so, I am leery about having to install all the panels. But, it may come to that.

Try finding at least one installer that works with Armor Screen.

In complicated window situations, some parts of the house may be better handled with screen.

They are easy to put up and work great. You can see through them too.

I used it to close in my entire back porch rather than dealing with a bunch of special shutters for the multiple sliding doors and curved aquarium glass in the kitchen.

I also use it to cover the front porch for the same kind of reason.

Its a good product- amazing how much it cuts the wind down.

For the other (easy) windows, I have aluminum shutters and a few lexan (clear)

This place sells the clear shutters at Lowes. https://storm-busters.com/ They're off Ellis road. These are super easy to install and put up.

Those clear, cuttable plexiglass shutters are about $113 for the 4' x 8' sheets at Lowes. Lightweight, super easy to store and install once you have the anchors in the wall. The screws go in with a standard Phillips bit, so you can use a power drill to speed things up.

You might decide to replace a few strategic windows with impact-resistant material, so save light and ingress/egress, or avoid putting up shutters in difficult locations (like 2nd floor).

I did my whole house(*) with Lexan/polycarbonate windows in 1996. Dade County rated, got all the discounts. But I can't find a supplier for those anymore. The ones that got hit with sprinklers for 20+ years have built up a mineral film that I can't get off.

(*) Except for 3 doors that I cover with the big plexiglass panels.

We can supply u all the materials u need. If u like to install yourself. Would go with either aluminum Panels with Lexington plexiglass mixed in Or accordian. All Miami dade approved and also offer Bahamian shutters as well. If your not wanting roll downs and If your windows are older And aluminum, it's best to replace With impact windows. We did impact glass in our house And shuttered French doors. Licensed contractor free estimates P.s. Would stay away from cloth Unless it's a roll down for covered Porch area.

Palerider, can you PM me with your # for a quote? We had serious hurricane damage last year (are still not back in the house) and the mister will not move back in until we get something on there that I can manage myself if he's in England for work .
