it isnt as pretentious as naples. still has florida island life qualities unlike so many other places. boating to cape romano, 10 thousand islands, and even the keys is easy from there. used to be good fishing, now dunno. monster tarpon and snook in caxambis pass and around winterberry bridge. south end of keywadin island and little marco is boat party central on weekends. was in love with a girl from marco once a long time ago

Marco Island itself is a grand example of bulldozing paradise to create something sterile. But the surroundings are impressive and Tigertail Beach at the north end of Marco is still good for birding.

i preferred tigertail in the 80s before the sandbar off the beach joined it. wasn't the same after.

I was working in the area and wondered if it was worth the run. The images of the urban explosion are slightly unnerving, but the water and sandbars look inviting. How is the flow between islands? Inlet like or less?

Marco island is a travesty. Total disneyesque manufactured experience.
Check out the cool, funky, legitimate destinations that still remain.
Any of the for real keys destinations that got creamed by irma will be bought up by dirtbags like westgate. Who ruined our c.b. pier.
This is being done deliberately in the keys by with holding reconstruction fema money.
By your traitor money launderer in chief and his boy big rick
Maybe a putin mafia financed resort and marina in key largo?
Dynamite some reefs, put in some pilings.
Pay off some pig rick and chump epa regulators........

It's a democratic hoax

The canal that runs down highway 29 is crammed with all sorts of exotics, I saw some Oscars in the 2/3 pound range. Something ate a penny that I tossed into the water, so I'm going to hit the canal on my way down, then search out some snook in the moving waters around Marco. I imagine the Mangrove snapper are thick in the area too, if bait is available.

I saw the head of a 20 pound snook nailed to a post about 10 miles west of the Indian casino. I bet those are a real shocker for bass fishermen.
