The Miami Dolphins approached the offseason like a team contending for the Super Bowl. They made a big splash by trading for cornerback Jalen Ramsay and bringing in highly touted defensive coordinator Vic Fangio.

The Dolphins are looking to build off last year's success, which saw them finish 9-8 and make the playoffs for the first time since 2016. However, the team lost to the Buffalo Bills in the wild-card round, extending Miami's playoff winless streak to 22 seasons.

Miami Dolphins have high hopes despite injury to big offseason acquisition

The AFC East may be the most closely contested division in the NFL in 2023.

The Buffalo Bills head into the season as Vegas' odds on favorites to come out on top. Not far behind are the New York Jets and Miami Dolphins. The New England Patriots have the longest shot, based on oddsmakers.

If you ask anyone in South Florida, they believe the Dolphins' chances to win the division, or at least nab a wild card spot, are really good.

Unfortunately for the Dolphins, they've already lost their highly-decorated offseason acquisition when cornerback Jalen Ramsey suffered a knee injury on the second day of camp.

Jalen Ramsey was at practice today. He was wearing compression sleeves on both knees. No crutches and no limp.

Bucs to start QB Baker Mayfield Friday, Kyle Trask next week

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers' tightly contested quarterback competition will see Baker Mayfield get the start Friday night in the Bucs' preseason opener against the Pittsburgh Steelers. Coach Todd Bowles announced the move Wednesday, saying that Kyle Trask will get the start in preseason Week 2 at the New York Jets.

Do the Dolphins have a QB2 question? With Mike White still sidelined in the concussion protocol, Skylar Thompson was given most of the snaps in Saturday night's game against the Jaguars after Tua Tagvaoiloa came out after the first quarter. Thompson was coming off a three-TD performance against the Texans but was far less effective in this game. He was picked twice on his first three throws, the first on an overthrow and the second when Thompson failed to see Jaguars linebacker Yasir Abdullah dropping to the flat in zone. Thompson has been more good than bad this preseason, but with Tagovailoa's health worries and White's unknown status, it's possible that Thompson could be the QB2 in Week 1. The worry is consistency. He made the team as a camp feel-good story a year ago but struggled in two of his three starts as a rookie. There's still some trust lacking despite Thompson looking like a better football player than he was a year ago.

Well Tua has done all he can. Spent the entire off season bulking up, increasing core strength, strengthening neck muscles, and getting tossed around the mat learning how to fall in Judo class. Hope it works
