My daughter, Ella, turned seven today. She's a Type-1 Diabetic. That's her insulin pump on her leg. She was diagnosed last fall and life has been turned upside down ever since. She's taking it really well and, if there's a silver lining, I'm convinced she's going to be a stronger person for it.

Anyways, she knows more about the pancreas than just about any 7-year old in town. In Type-1 Diabetics, the pancreas is the organ that your body beats up until it can't help you process sugar anymore, so you have to constantly monitor sugar levels and add insulin to keep things in check.

Anyways, back to music.... Weird Al has a song called "Pancreas" and it quickly became one of Ella's favorite songs. It took half a year's worth of work, but I managed to get this sent to her. Talk about a happy kid!

Thanks, Al! And Bermuda Schwartz, the band's drummer, that did all the dirty work to make it happen. Cheers!

And, since you didn't ask, here's Pancreas:

That genuine smile of her brightens up everything. She surely is a tough girl and a lucky one as she receives a fan sign from her chosen artist.

Awesome. I think in her lifetime endocrine disorders like hers will be solved.

Capitalism is based on the ridiculous notion that you can enjoy limitless growth in a closed, finite system.

In biology, such behavior of cells is called "cancer".

That is very cool, and your daughter looks super stoked.

I'm with Dave, Weird Al totally rocks and he made your little girl very happy!

Nice of him. Glad your daughter is doing well. Kids are resilient creatures. Think Rusty is right, sooner rather than later.

Given that a functional pancreas has already been created in a mouse model already with the scaffolding/cell printing technique, I think it will be before this sweet girl reaches her 30s. Not to mention other breakthroughs in just the past two years.

She has real hope for that.
