Why exactly? My wife and I were asked to leave a busy cafe while on vacation until the rest of our party showed up to make room for other customers. We stepped outside as asked and waited for her parents and brother to show up. Nobody got arrested.
So two guys waiting for someone get asked to leave because they weren't ordering anything in a busy Starbucks. Rather than doing what they were asked to do, they decided to be assholes and refused. They were then escorted off the premises for trespassing by police. So what exactly the problem? Having extra melanin content is now an excuse to be an asshole? Edit: To be fair, I usually step outside *anyways* unless it is raining if I am waiting for someone is a business is crowded. I guess common courtesy isn't so common. It wasn't a busy cafe. They came for a real estate conference. A lady commented that she had been sitting there for hours without purchasing before. But she was white.

Battery in my ancient car died at the Starbucks in Vierra. I wasn't exactly dressed nice. They didn't ask me to leave. I was still there long after I had finished my coffee waiting for Mrs. Scombrid to come pick me up to take me to buy a new battery; a battery which I then swapped out right in their parking lot. I can't remember ever being in a Starbucks where seating was at limited. It is 90% carry out and a handful of people camped out for who the hell knows how long pretending like it is their personal office. I can understand a business not wanting non-paying customers taking up space. But Starbucks as a rule doesn't seem to be in the business of trying to shuffle people off. So the question is what was special about these guys. It also makes a difference whether or not it was busy and loiterers were being asked to leave in general.

Ive never been asked to leave or told to leave any establishment unless they were closing. I also frequent Starbucks all over the US and sometimes hang out for long periods of time. Not once have I been "removed."

Miker seriously? Yes the anger is misguided in that it is toward Starbucks and not the dreadful individual that caused this. But are you in denial that black people in this country get an f-ed up deal just because of their skin color? There is a lot of pent up anger there.
Pent up anger so they march now and then: Women Young people Black people How often do the oppressed white dudes march? They don't because they aren't. |

Come to my house and I'll show you what it's like. I avoid starbucks like the clap, because I'm cheap and view anybody willing to pay that much for coffee with disdain; but I thought they were supposed to be the epitome of progressive...I guess not. ------------------------- Specializing in sarcasm and condescending rhetoric since 1971. |

Starbucks: makes cups that aren't "Christmas-y" enough...
Conservatives: BOYCOTT STARBUCKS! Starbucks: calls 911 and has two African American guys taken away in handcuffs who were waiting for a friend. Conservatives: yeah, I'm ok with that... it's their fault for not ordering anything ------------------------- GOP: Gaslight Obstruct Project |

But are you in denial that black people in this country get an f-ed up deal just because of their skin color? Not at all. I agree with you that there is still bias and racism in this country. However, it is a place of business and they weren't doing business there. Whatever reason they were asked to leave is irrelevant at that point. What proof do you or anyone else for that matter have that racism was involved in this incident outside of a bunch of other angry people that 'say' it is? For fucks sake, I don't even use a gas station bathroom on a road trip without buying something from the store. What is so hard about buying a $2 coffee if you are going to hang out there for a while? The truth is, nothing is hard about it. Refusing to do business there followed by refusing to leave when asked was nothing more than these two being an asshole and trying to create a situation. |

I'm pretty sure I could go down to the Starbucks in IHB and sit there all day without being asked to leave.

I'm pretty sure I could go down to the Starbucks in IHB and sit there all day without being asked to leave. Cool? I am pretty sure most people of any color can go to most Starbucks and not be asked to leave. However, if someone was asked to leave if they weren't buying something, most people would comply. |

Perhaps not if:
1. You felt it was racially motivated 2. Your people had been subject to 400 years of abuse White folks have a tendency to dismiss problems that don't affect them personally. That's the concept of "privilege". ------------------------- Capitalism is based on the ridiculous notion that you can enjoy limitless growth in a closed, finite system. BLM was right about Baltimore and they are right about this too.
Slice how ever many times you want in an attempt to justify it, but you will be wrong. This is racism, plain and clear. ------------------------- I was right. |

That is only true if that policy is applied to everybody by the business. If the business is known for allowing extended loitering and there are people there loitering and someone is then singled out and asked to leave because they are loitering then there may a violation of a 54 year old law depending on the reason for that person having been treated differently from the others.

I might. Unless there are lots of empty tables and/or other people loitering either without buying anything or many hours beyond what a 2 dollar coffee should justify. Then I might be suspicious about why I am being asked to leave and be tempted to sit quietly by and see if they push the issue. ------------------------- ... |

This is racism, plain and clear. How is it plain and clear? Just because the people asked to leave had more melanin content than others? What evidence is there that this was actual racism? |

White folks have a tendency to dismiss problems that don't affect them personally. That's the concept of "privilege". Or some people dismiss problems that could have easily been handled by simply not being an asshole. |
