Snopes Is a Sneaky Liar About California's Bill To Ban Christian LGBT Talk

Read the bill. There is no religious exemption. There is no restriction to mental health professionals. This is not simply a 'gay conversion ban.'

Like I've said many times to date....Snopes is a commie liberal POS fake news site used to 'debunk' nothing!

It has a serious left wing commie bias and at this point can not be trusted to determine if baby shit is actually shit!

Fact!

Jesus, what a bunch of bullshit.

The bill says you can't try to reprogram gay kids under the age of 18. If there was any real issue, it would be brought up under a constitutional conflict.

Snopes is right. The Federalist - as usual - is wrong.

The Federalist guy wordsmithed a whole bunch of nothing. Meaningless dribble.

Snopes doesn't have the last say, in fact, Snopes has nothing to do with it at all. If there was a real issue, it would be taken up with California's version of the rules chairman.

Federalist Papers is just a propaganda front for The Heartland Institute. It is just a big corporate shill for multinational energy and agriculture conglomerates. Its sole function is to keep the rubes shooting themselves in their political feet.

You might ask youself why the Heartland Institute which spent most of its existence as an anti-environment lobby working on behalf of coal, oil, and ag decided in 2013 to create "thefederalistpapers" website to state banging so hard on social issues like LGBT rights and gay marriage.

The correct answer is "wedge issues".

Heartland created Rush Limbaugh in the 1980s to try to help their battle against regulations on sulfur and CFC emissions. That is the kind of stuff that was their bread and butter. But they realized that they can get a lot more traction with social wedge issues.

Thing is, they don't actually care about social issues. Their end game is that they want to exteranlize as much of their respective industries business costs onto the public while hoarding profits.

I've been following The Heartland Institute around since the 1980s.

Heartland took the position that acid rain is completely natural and not caused by sulfur emissions.

Heartland took the position that second hand smoke was harmless.

It published articles and editorials and fed Limbaughs news feed talking points on these issues all while being funded by BP Amoco, ExxonMobile, RJ Reynolds, Weyerhauser, Philip Morris, etc...

Weyerhauser wanted to cut the last 1/2% of virgin timber remaining in an area and ran up against tree huggers and the ESA. Magically Rush Limbaugh became obsessed with Spotted Owls and the ESA as he gleefully farted out what Heartland fed his ticker. They blamed the loss of logging jobs out their on regulations. Umm, well you guys could cut that last little bit of big timber but that will keep the mill open for maybe another year. Fast is, all the big trees are gone. It is just pulp wood and slash timber anymore and you can't keep the mills build for big timber running on that stuff.

Its been smoke and mirrors from day-1.

I know a lot of conservatives (Alex Jones types) like to join they crazy Jenny McCarthy type liberals in denouncing "Big Pharma". Jones loves his "Big Pharma" conspiracy theories. GlaxoSmithLkine, Pfizer, Amgen, Bayer, Eli Lilly are all huge contributers to Heartland.

After the 2008 and 2012 presidential losses they realized that fake grass roots on social media was the ticket. Hence the creation of online presence like FederalistPapers and its many many many mirrors.

? The public health community's campaign to demonize smokers and all forms of tobacco is based on junk science.

The 'science' that Heartland used was Philip Morris funded junk.

This is right out of the "merchants of doubt" playbook; right up to the loaded "demonize smokers" loaded language. Smokers have been treated as victims more than demonized in any way.

This talking point is the tip of their obfuscation campaign they waged on behalf of Tobacco companies that knowingly and deliberately sold an addictive chemical while hiding information on addiction that they possessed from the public. Their hiding the information they possessed on addiction it what made them liable.

? Litigation against the tobacco industry is an example of lawsuit abuse, and has "loaded the gun" for lawsuits against other industries.

See the above statement on liability.

? Smoking bans hurt small businesses and violate private property rights.

Smoking bans did not end up putting a net "hurt" on small business. You're business selling and servicing air cleaners might have taken a hit and the store that sells cigarettes might have been hit. But the restaurants and bars and such? No. Business did not drop because people could no longer smoke inside. Business may have increased. I quit going to dive bars because I got sick of the smoke. Now I'll pop in for a whiskey when the mood strikes.

Also, your private property rights as a public business are limited in a lot of ways. They are limited by what is allowed to drift from your property. Cities may regulate what kind of signs you have or what you put on the sidewalk. Businesses are limited by the ADA and Civil Rights Act of 1964. Public accomodations have always been subject to a different standard from you residence.

? The harm caused by smoking can be reduced by educating smokers about their options.

This ultimately causes the same harm to the smoking related businesses that are hurt by a smoking ban. It is just a softer roll out if it works.

Of course Philip Morris shilling through Heartland is counting on their disinformation counter-education campaign to work and nullify and anti-smoking education campaign.

? Punishing smokers "for their own good" is repulsive to the basic libertarian principles that ought to limit the use of government force.

This is the one area where I agree with CATO-Heartland etc... Sin taxes are stupid. I have a virtual essay somewhere in the archives on here where I've expounded on why. It is one of my hobby horses to whip.

Ummmm....hell no!

The FACTS I got were straight from the president of the Heartland Institute.

Joseph Bast
President
The Heartland Institute

FOOL!

"You may or may not agree with us on each of these points, but after reading the full essay and some of the sources it links to, you will be persuaded that they are based on real research and the findings of credible experts. "Forecast the Facts" falsely claims that we take the positions we do because we are funded by tobacco companies. In fact, tobacco companies have never contributed more than 2 percent of our total income in a given year. I repeat: Not more than 2 percent. Our positions on tobacco control are based on facts and principles, not on who funds us.

Anti-smoking groups exaggerate the dangers of smoking, second-hand smoke, and smokeless tobacco products in order to support their agenda of higher taxes, more regulations, and subsidies. We've certainly earned their enmity for pointing this out, but it is untrue to claim that we are misleading the public, denying a very real public health problem, or in some other way are behaving badly. We are not."
