Reporters and journalists need to start doing their jobs. They are doing their job. They are paid to sell ads; not spend shareholder money on lengthy investigations. They are to be first, not right. Get the eyeballs and move on. Look at the company that is trying to buy Gannett. The media is being consolidated and gutted in a very deliberate way. NBC created Trump. NBC elected Trump. Bonus for them is that they get ratings for their late night skits that would otherwise likely be gone the way of the dodo. The megacorporations that own the media love Trump's corporate tax cuts, destruction of net neutrality, refusal to enforce anti-trust laws, changes to regulations to allow more media consolidation.... All this bullshit and noise is just for show. Like you said, they aren't doing any real investigative journalism and really digging up bones. It sounds like Smollett also mailed the crushed Aspirin, attempting to look like a harzardous deadly substance, and hate letter to the studio he worked at. They cut the letters out of a magazine and didn't disgard the magazine. lol Mail fraud of this kind is probably the most serious of the charges. With the amount of time the Chicago PD and federal investigators have wasted on both of these incidents, I wouldn't expect him to receive special treatment.

The Faux news crowd loves stories like these, they're like a "get out of racism free" card. You could have a black man lynched and hanging from a tree, and they'll say he's faking it like Smollett. Yeah. They use this just like they use the women who yell "rape" when it doesn't happen. "SEE?!" they yell, and try to convince everyone that there are no real rapes ever. "Not my little angel," would ever assault that woman. This keeps the rape kits on the shelf from ever getting tested. Shame on those who cry "WOLF." Shame on us for not verifying their claims. Shame on us as a society for pointing at every accusation as either 100% true or 100% false. I'm not above admitting that I was hoodwinked by this story. I think it takes a bigger person to admit that they were wrong. I think that's why Trump doesn't get the benefit of the doubt. I can't rememeber any time taht he said he messed up. Chicago cops laid out their case against "Empire" actor Jussie Smollett Thursday morning, accusing the TV star of orchestrating an elaborate hoax involving two "bogus" hate crimes -- one involving an alleged attack, and one involving a threatening letter -- all in order to get a pay raise.
Chicago police Superintendent Eddie Johnson said Smollett orchestrated a "phony attack" in order to take "advantage of the pain and anger of racism to promote his career." Johnson said at a news conference Thursday that Smollett, 36, also sent a racist and homophobic threatening letter to himself at the Fox studio lot before the attack because he was dissatisfied with his salary. "I'm left hanging my head and asking why," a visibly upset Johnson told reporters. "Why would anyone, especially an African-American man, use the symbolism of a noose to make false accusations? How could someone look at the hatred and suffering associated with that symbol...how can an individual who has been embraced by the city of Chicago turn around and slap everyone in this city by making this false claim?"
