As Democrats consider the idea of reparations to black Americans for slavery, polling indicates that the public is far from convinced about the idea.
House Judiciary Democrats on Wednesday were holding a hearing in the Constitution, Civil Rights and Civil Liberties subcommittee on H.R. 40 -- a proposal by Rep. Sheila Jackson-Lee, D-Texas, to set up a commission to study and develop a response to the question of reparations for slavery.
But polling suggests that such a commission would also need to change the minds of a significant number of Americans for the move to get support.
A Fox News poll in April found that 60 percent of Americans oppose paying cash reparations to descendants of slaves, while just 32 percent support it. A Rasmussen poll in the same month found that just 21 percent of likely voters think taxpayers should pay reparations to black Americans who can prove they are descended from slaves.

They should go after the descendants of those who captured and sold them into slavery!

There really isn't any reason to pay much attention to this. This is just the Democrat candidates trying to differentiate themselves as candidates and draw attention to themselves by going extreme left. They have zero intentions of actually having to do anything with this. It is pandering, plain and simple. While we are at it, let's go ahead and have the government pay insurance benefits to the families of anyone whose homes were damaged in the United States prior to insurance being readily available.

The point is to get the prog horde of candidates to sign on to it. That will further turn most of the electorate against them. And it won't help them with blacks, as blacks know that they are lying about it.

we all know what your point is
you are pinning too much hope on the stupidity of the electorate tpap
not as many are going to buy the rights lies this time.

America making up for the legacy of slavery with reparations as cash payment still are a net negative (positive among younger voters)
but they poll much higher if you are talking about generic targeted government help to try and clean up the legacy of our early economy.

So are you saying our government shouldn't make amends for wrongful past deeds? Or are you claiming our government's support for slavery wasn't wrong?

Why would MAGAs get upset? They don't want to take responsibility?

I'm thinking we set up a new "Homestead Program" for the decedents of slaves. Maybe on BLM lands in Utah and Nevada. Hopefully on that land buddy used to run his cattle on, or maybe Bears Ears. That would have something for everyone, piss off the environmentalists and piss off the racists.

Oh no all3 they take responsibility for picking up their food stamps and taking their oxy when the feel they should and such.

MAGAs just don't want anyone to get ahead of them.

That's why they hate segregation, affirmative action, immigrants, school teachers, schools, minimum wage, student discounts, socialism, competition, other nations and especially reparations.

That's a pretty good idea about the land though.

By definition, reparation doesn't necessarily mean cash.

Going to be a full scale 4 ring Circus. Most of these people do not have the wherewithal to put together the required documents to get an ID. How in heck are they going to "Prove" that one of their ancestors was a slave?

Not very perceptive, are you? In any event, I have the perfect solution. Let the states decide on whether to award reparations. That would end this whole thing quickly.

As seen by how McConnell's words were twisted yesterday, the goal is to brand anyone who says a negative word about this idiotic proposal as a racist. It's basically a trap.

Should I do the right thing? Or should I try to keep more of my money?

I don't mind paying my share to the government as long as my government does the right thing.
