This is the first time Democrats have excluded any Republicans in impeachment hearings. The Democrats are doing this so that they have 100% control over the ability to leak what they want to and forget the stuff they don't. This is the first time these types of hearings have happened without a vote on the House floor.

Democrats want to keep the whistleblower's identity a secret to prevent anyone from being able to question his or her background or motives.

It is my opinion that all the secrecy and irregular actions by the Democrats will work against them. If they thought they had the goods then they would be happy to do all this out in the open to embarrass as many people as possible. Democrats want to make it look like impeachment and they want it to look bad for the President but much like the Mueller investigation, I don't think they have an exit strategy. If they don't find more to use on the President or if they can't drag this out until the next elections then they are setting themselves up for failure.

Good for them, the pugs have proven themselves incompetent when it comes to serious investigations. And since they are determined to block impeachment no matter how obviously guilty trump is, there's no need to vote on the investigation or let them into hearings. The impeachment inquiry depositions are being held behind closed doors inside the Capitol. The House Intelligence Committee, chaired by California Democrat Adam Schiff, is running the meetings, but the investigation also includes the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee, as well as the House Foreign Affairs Committee.

The depositions are run by committee staff. Members of Congress from these three committees are invited to attend and observe, but only staff are asking the questions.
