President Trump and Michigan Republicans were just handed a huge victory by the Supreme Court on a case involving redrawn congressional districts, as Reuters reports:

"The U.S. Supreme Court on Monday threw out a challenge to Republican-drawn electoral districts in Michigan that Democrats said were illegally configured to dilute their voting power, an action taken in the aftermath of major rulings by the justices in June prohibiting federal courts from hearing such claims.

The Supreme Court's action voided an order in April by a three-judge panel to rework 34 districts in the state legislature and U.S. House of Representatives whose boundaries were crafted purely to advantage Republicans, a practice known as partisan gerrymandering.

The justices had put the panel's decision on hold before they issued their rulings in the two major gerrymandering cases from Maryland and North Carolina. In a blow to election reformers, the justices found that federal courts have no role to play in reining in electoral map manipulation by politicians aimed at entrenching one party in power.

The Supreme Court on Oct. 7 threw out a similar case from Ohio in which a lower court had invalidated 16 Republican-drawn U.S. House districts that Democrats had said were drawn to unlawfully diminish their political clout.

The June high court ruling did not foreclose partisan gerrymandering being challenged in lawsuits based on violations of a state constitution. On Sept. 3, a state court in North Carolina struck down a Republican-drawn state legislature electoral map as unlawful partisan gerrymandering under the state constitution.

In partisan gerrymandering, one political party draws legislative districts to marginalize voters who tend to support the other party. The lines are typically redrawn once a decade after the U.S. census, and in many states the party in power controls the decision-making.
Nine U.S. House and 25 state legislative districts were at issue in Michigan. A three-judge panel in Detroit on April 25 ruled in favor of Democratic voters who filed a lawsuit challenging the map, calling gerrymandering a "pernicious practice that undermines our democracy," and ordered state officials to draw new maps."
This has huge implications for 2020, so good news for the Trump re-election effort and for the prospects of Republicans in Michigan.
This just goes to show the elections have consequences, as former Obama campaign manager Rahm Emanuel once said.

Gerrymandering means the choose their voters, not the voters choosing their elected officials. That's a failure for democracy, and a surprise that you think its winning. The GOP's pendulum will swing the other way and their power will too. They will then pretend that democracy matters, that this practice is wrong and that it has to stop once they are no longer the perpetual party guaranteed by the gerrymandering. Will you call the democrats that exact this revenge winners?

Guppy gulper so stupid it's laughable. Michigan has a Democratic Governor and the GOP does not have enough power to over ride a Veto.

Correct decision. The importance is more from the standpoint, that the Court held that it should not get involved in political decisions. Should be up to the voters.

Like I said, perpetual parties choosing their voters instead of the voters choosing them is a defeat of democracy. No one should be happy about this.

You have exactly backwards. Voters did choose the politicians who gerrymandered. No voter chose any Justice on the Supreme Court. The Supreme Court has no business interfering with the voters' choices on a matter of strictly state concern that doesn't implicate the U.S. Constitution.

This is when I feel like it might be too generous to assume you are not this stupid and just being provocative.

an action taken in the aftermath of major rulings by the justices in June prohibiting federal courts from hearing such claims. " ..........They never said Gerrymandering didn't take place they just said it isn't the purview of federal courts to hear the case... It is disturbing that cases of Gerrymandering will now be decided in state courts or by the state politicians that enacted them. This is the government dividing our votes in order to stay in power. We form a voting bloc and the politicians negate our vote so they can stay in power. that's bullshit

Can't guppy guzzler read? "Michigan has a Democratic Governor and the GOP does not have enough power to over ride a Veto." The GOP goon squad celebrating the most lame of headlines anymore. I guess they pretty much have nothing but a deficit busting tax cut left. Oh and racism and misogyny.
