Of course it is stated that way because weather and climate is chaotic and very difficult to predict, and the models predicting the slowdown are far from perfect (especially since we don't have precise historical data on ocean currents) and can only be used to estimate the probability of theoretical scenarios.

With the information available today, we can make statements like, the likelihood that SFL will be dealing with a massive economic impact due to sea level rise within the next 50 years is highly likely and make plans accordingly. For example, if you're an insurance company, you probably want to ditch your policy holders in the Keys and Miami
