3rdworldlover Posts: 22551 Joined Forum: 07/25/2003	White band disease was a previous event that made a huge dent, likely caused by anthropogenic nutrient loading from agricultural and sewage runoff. This year's massive and unprecedented bleaching event was caused by heat.

We had the facts and knew the solutions half a century ago. We also could've managed sewage and agricultural runoff much better. To this day, nearly all wastewater in the Keys is injected in shallow disposal wells and FL continues to allow harmful agricultural and urban landscape practices.

China and India were never going to shut down their economies by doing away with fossil fuels. Nothing we could have done about that, short of nuking them. BTW: China generates almost twice as much wind power as the USA and provides about 1/3 of the world's solar power, outpacing us in converting to alternatives. India is ramping up renewables quickly too.
