Does this require thule crossbars, or will it install on top of regular flat/oval type SUV crossbars?

Does not require thule crossbars. It's made to mount to existing crossbars. If you don't have crossbars, I have some with t-bolts that slide into your side-rail channels.

Someone emailed me about the crossbars, so here's some pics of the dimensions. One set is more beefy than the other and has holes already drilled. Both sets come with the basket, but if you have crossbars already on your vehicle, the basket is made to clamp onto those as well.
