Here's my young Camellia japonica from Erinon nursery, NW of Orlando. The variety is Royal Velvet, which needs minimal night cooling. Don't try growing it at the beach. Edited: 02/07/2010 at 03:09 PM by ww |

My Camellia sasanqua, in a big tub, is now opening a dozen light pink flowers (cold spell spent under frost cloth). The Camellia japonica, in another big tub, is full of buds and should bloom in another month (red & white flowers).

Here's the little bush doing everything it can to justify its existence. |

My mom loves to tell the story of her favorite flower. When we were kids, my mother bought a camellia bush (her favorite). She waited a few years for it to mature and bloom. Finally, it did. My brother, who was a only about 7years old, thought he would surprise my mom. He cut all the flowers off and presented them to her. Needless to say she almost fainted but couldn't be mad at him.
