i'm trying to build a simple, 1 to 2 foot high retaining wall of handmade rock around a large planter area in our front yard. It is probably about 60 foot around at the most. Does anyone have any ideas  of where I might be able to find loose rocks that I could piece together to make the wall with? We were going to go to Lowe's and buy the rocks there, but it would cost us almost $1000 and we don't have the money for that. Thx

That is a tough question. I thought there may be a spot in Cocoa by the landfill that has free rock, but that was 20 years ago.

Any way you happen to remember the name of the place? I was thinking of driving around out there to hopefully find it.

Sorry, I don't. I tried to look at google maps but couldn't remember where it was. It was off the interstate pull in and pile rock in. However that was 30 years ago. maybe call one of the waste facilities and see if they have rock just laying around.

Otherwise, there is that landscape depot just north of Pineda on US1 or Rockledge Gardens. But, $.

Or, maybe call a Granite company and ask for scraps.

I've seen a lot of concrete driveways being torn out for pavers, I wonder what they do with all of those big chunks of "rock"?

Broken concrete actually makes a pretty nice retaining wall. After you stack it, it can be stained. It may require some busting up with a jackhammer but would be a great way to reuse a driveway. Contact a paver company to see if they would give it to you.

@CFDave, - Are you talking about the rock that used to be piled on the westbound side of the road of SR528/Industry road? I remember shoveling bedfulls of white rock into my pickup around there back in the day. The rinker trucks used to dump excess payload there on the side of the road, but I haven't been there in years. Sadly, I heard that Rinker closed a while back though...

Mockingbird mulching facility in T-ville gives away free mulch to brevard residents and I recall seeing a giant pile of concrete last time I was there. Not sure, but they might let you have some if you ask.

PS...they load the mulch with the front end loader so no shoveling if you got a trailer or pickup (FYI..they require u have tarp to cover load)...might be same with concrete if they give that away.

" SR528/Industry road?" that's it. Thanks for keeping me insane. I was second guessing myself. It was a long time ago.
