"Based on death certificate data, the percentage of deaths attributed to pneumonia, influenza or COVID-19 (PIC) decreased from 9.5% during week 24 to 6.9% during week 25 but remained above baseline. This is the ninth week of a declining percentage of deaths due to PIC, but this may change as more death certificates are processed, particularly for recent weeks."

When you look at the data on the age of those who have died and been hospitalized and the list of preexisting conditions, the information I am reading isn't really telling us much we didn't already know. You don't see a lot of people over the age of 80 or so who are obese. Obviously, not all of the contributing preexisting conditions are self-inflicted but it looks like many of them are.

"Among 8,089 hospitalized adults with information on underlying medical conditions, 91% had at least one reported underlying medical condition. The most commonly reported were hypertension, obesity, chronic metabolic disease, and cardiovascular disease."
