Most of the quarters and semis were SO boring , like watching Pro Surfing from the 1980s in LESS then stellar conditions once again . However the Finals was quite entertaining , with the best conditions of the event and such an even match up with Ferreira versus Medina , both so VERY methodical , technical and calculated in their approach , and so many back to back to back waves ridden ! ( If you missed the final watch the replay ! )

Yes Joe, Brazil dominating the event with Toledo another semi finalist. Caroline to the semis and Carissa just got her with her bigger waves skills

Made me smile to see Carissa's humble reaction to her pulling her air. Stoked for her.
Also seeing Defay clapping for her in the inside. True sportsmanship!

Medina and Marks for the win ! Mendina's aerial attack in the finals was absolutely unstoppable ! Three perfectly completed airs . He ate Conner for lunch !

The WSL site is making it almost impossible to watch the recaps and the like with all those advertisement interruptions and redirects. wtf

Ya, really, he speaks my era's thinkin'! I remember an article came out wayway back when of his love of this place called Kirra Point, and somehow a clip came out or it was in a surf flic we went to Hyhi (as a 20yr olds in the 70's)) there's Rabbit scREam'n down along this ruler edged 8' dredg'n (read:"Gnarly" for the times) Right for seemed like a full 9, 10,11 seconds and came out clean and dry standing 'at ease' go'in over the shoulder. THEE best tube ride I'd ever seen in m'young life to date, and as I think of this now, maybe Still, one of the best of a dozen righthand tuberides i've seen on films. Back to his ride'n the mic though, my favorite surf flic has to be-- ""Break'in down the door""!! so yah, I really enjoyed him in the box too Cole- yeEw!

I've had the luxury of watching this on FS2 through Hulu at night while my son sleeps! I just can't get into Medina's style or lack there of. Yes he completes airs, but he looks like a stink bug doing them. His frontside is a bit better, but still ugly in my opinion. Congrats to Caroline

I still can't decide on the one trick thing. Is doing five air reverses till you land one worth an 8.5? Or should they drop a point after each failed attempt?

I enjoyed the women's heats more than the men's. Just sayin.

Pro surfing is at an interesting point right now. The airs are acrobatic, innovative, and technically superior, but I'm starting to get a little tired of them for some reason. Especially now that we have wave pools where you know many of the competitors are learning these rotations. I don't want to sound like what they are doing isn't spectacular, but I'm concerned about where competition/scoring is going. Margs will showcase a lot, and if it's on in classic conditions JJF will be next level.

^^^^ Italo's 1.5 or whatever score on the air he got "robbed" on is proof of the above statements.

Man- how about Caroline Marks- well done young lady making Central Florida proud as hell!!! I smell a title coming in 2021l!! As for the aerial stuff I can't agree more- it's almost a tricks competition with everything geared up for speed to launch that one helicopter spinner- make no bones about it Toledo was just amazing when it came to that- I mean it was crazy!! But do all the points go to that one big air maneuver ? I saw plenty of chances for full body dips or style sections that just got passed up to create speed for the all important ramp launch. This was a smaller wave event- but sets were solid and some big carves and lips happened but they were clearly not the go to strategy. In bigger waves this type of thing goes away- but for smaller 6-8 and under surf- I think these aerials are here to stay -especially to give the crowd d a big WOW moment for those that don't really surf or understand it- I think Kechele woulda kicked ass in this format if this is the way it's gonna be- tricks are for winners right!!!

Smack the lip five times, get pitted, then bust your air as a finishing move and everyone is happy.
