City of Rockledge statement was incorrect, my bad......

BREVARD COUNTY is trying to cut the trees on the Rockledge River road so that utility vehicles can pass......ie: trash truck and recycle truck. Screw that........

Save the Oaks on Rockledge Dr

Cutting those tree would be a massive mistake. They are what literally provides the charm to that road.

Is there plans to flatten every single tree, bush and weed in the state?

I'll never understand our complete desire to eradicate nature and have every thing look like the nightmare that is Viera.

Are they cutting the entire tree down or just the low hanging branches. They come through here and just cut the low hanging stuff. Once every couple years. It's not a big deal at all if that is what they are doing. Free tree trimming.

I live on a oak tree lined street where the trees form a tunnel but the oaks are off the street by at least 6'. The owners generally keep the canopy high so it doesn't drag on trucks, etc. It is a very cool look.
On rockledge dr some of the trees are right on the edge of the road and over hang it at pretty low heights. I can see some reasonable arborist doing some selective pruning and cutting just for safety's sake, but wholesale tree removal would be a crime.

They could just make it a one way road with bike lanes on each side as a buffer to keep vehicles off the trees. But that would be it's own hassle for the residents of that road.

I agree nothing better than giant live oaks. I think the problem is that the Oaks and some other species wreak havoc on road and sidewalk maintenance. Removing the live oaks eliminates the continuous road and sidewalk damage, and burden on County. Would like to see County maybe adopt a resolution or something allowing them to weigh benefits of having large live oaks vs. increased road maintenance or living with damaged roads and sidewalks. Currently - I think safe and sound roads and sidewalks rules the day in the County's view. I would gladly live with potholes and uneven pavement in exchange for keeping mature live oaks in place.
