We went tankless about 4 years ago and love it. Significant savings and never runs out. Only downside is slightly longer for shower to get hot.

Went tankless at a rental...not sure if I do it again, complaints about not being able to shower and run the dishwasher at the same time, but the energy savings they did like...Also after 3 years had to replace the entire system due to a heater coil failure. They work but longevity is questionable. Forgot to add make sure you have available 220V breaker on your box, or install cost goes up. I am still on the fence if it was worth it but for a second story Apartment I do not have to worry about a tank erupting and flooding out the 2nd and 1st floor units, that was the driving force for my install.

Are you talking about the heat-pump water heater? I had a co-worker install one in his home and he had nothing but good things to say about it. Had it in the garage and said that it did provide some level of cooling. Pricey, but he was the type of guy that spent a lot on that stuff, including solar-heating for pool, etc.

I keep finding that Rheem has some problems and is noisy. Which won't work for us because the master bedroom shares the wall with the water heater on the other side. I haven't yet spoke to anyone that has had A.O. Smith or the Bradford white brand. There are some Rebates available. But I don't know if it's worth it for our needs. ------------------------- Time and tide wait for no one..... |

Got one a few years ago and still love it. Not the cheapest, but it was a great option for our place and would get one again.
