My point is that bad things are already happening, enabled by a self-proclaimed nationalist manipulating the masses with disinformation, nationalist propaganda, and repeatedly calling the media and political opponents the enemy of the government.

Yeah bad things are happening. Trump is a demagogue. How exactly is raising the specter of Nazi ideology helping the divide in this country? How about the gross generalizations I have seen people make comparing conservatives to Nazi's ? Also, I hope you don't think for a second that Trump has the market on manipulating the masses cornered. Disinformation and manipulation of people has been going on for quite a long time. Sensationalism, partisan reporting, spin, and prioritization of commercialism over the truth is long running issue that greatly predates Trump.

Yeah the infection has been festering for a long time. Trump and his rallies are an infection gone septic. Those rallies and Alex Jones following represent >1% of the population. Just because someone doesn't label themselves a Nazi doesn't mean that their nationalistic fervor fed with Trump's brand of conspiracy theories and fear mongering isn't analogous to the type of jingoistic fervor that the original Nazi's used to rise to power.

The conservatives need to do more to speak up. When Alex Jones got kicked off youtube and twitter there was an outcry that those platforms were censoring "conservative voices". Accepting Jones and people like him as a "conservative voice" should be unacceptable for anyone that calls himself a conservative. Surely conservatives can figure out how to defend free speech without accepting people like Alex Jones into the "conservative" tent. But you know, they don't. You read it and hear it all the time. They decry censorship of "conservative voices" every time somebody like Alex Jones does something crazy and gets the ban hammer on some platform. Our 2ndlight microcosm is an example. You see any conservatives telling FK to shut up with the Birther nonsense? Nope. As far as I am concerned they are all birthers until they start correcting the loons.
