I'm going to be out of country for a while and would rather my board not stand out as anything particularly worth taking. Firewires tend to stand out with the black stringer, so I thought the simplest thing might be to paint over the black stringer and Slater logo with some kind of white paint, but I've never painted on top of finished fiberglass before. Any ideas or recommendations?

If it is only temporary, you could try some white vinyl tape or white electrical tape. I've used tape on boards for other reasons and it has lasted surprisingly long on the top and bottom. But, have never tried to cover up a whole stringer top an bottom with tape.

Sharpies work good, but more permanent.
Rattle can spray paint would probably work fine, but again more permanent.

Good luck!

Something permanent is probably best as it will have to run the full stringer on the deck and bottom and it may need to last a few months (or longer). Thanks for the ideas!

Strip the wax, clean the wax residue with a pickle (panty hose stuffed with foam dust), sand with 150 grit, then tape off and paint. The paint will stay in place until you decide to remove it.

No need to sand. Clean off all the wax and then "wash/rub" the area with mineral spirits, then scrub good with something like 409. Should be very squeaky clean. Tape off the stringer and spray with Rust-Oleum Painter's Touch 2X paint.

Krylon makes a great paint and primer in one, but any of them will work. I do like the name brands a little more because the spray has a more consistent stream. Top it off with a clear coat (basically clear spay paint) if you want it to be more permanent.

I sand it to make sure there is no wax period and it gives the paint more purchase. Solvents always seemed to make more work for me. I'm a fan of the one and done.

Listen, don't do something this drastic.
Leave the board with me and I'll make sure nobody steals it...
I'll even wax it up a couple times..
do you want me to guard your car also?
