That covid insurance seems like a scam. Will it really pay for room and board if you get covid and stuck there? I think that is the intent.

Costa Rican Immigration officials have sole authority to determine the length of stay for tourists entering Costa Rica. Tourist seeking to extend their stay beyond the date indicated by immigration officials must contact the Migracion Call Center at 1311. Tourists are not able to extend their stay in Costa Rica beyond 90 days.

All visitors must also complete an online Health Pass (pasa de Salud) 48 hours prior to travel to Costa Rica. The Health Pass can be found at https://salud.go.cr.

Im showing $415 for a family of 5 for insurance for a week. We are going down this summer, but wife was hesitant mostly due to the reliance of these test. If we have a positive out of the 5 people testing, someone is going to have to stay for a 10-14 day quarantine plus Mom or Dad. I have been trying to find out what that quarantine looks like, is the Gestapo following you, as I would go crazy in CR locked up in a hotel room for 14 days with great surf outside!

IMO. CR tourism wont fully be back until this policy is lifted. I believe this is a US policy to have a negative test before you get on board to leave.
We almost didn't go because of this, the only reason we did, is my 13 year old who has the surf bug bad, wont make it thru his first flat summer without driving us crazy.

I am going because I have the bug bad. I was hoping it would be contagious with the teenage complainers when I get there but I need to go. I will pay it. The official blanket "Do Not Travel" for most countries and the elaborate instructions for CR from the U.S. Embassy are discouraging. Which perhaps makes this summer a good time to visit.

Go to the Trawick site. Their rate estimate tool is fairly simple to use, and it does not ask for any personal info (telephone, email, etc.).

The Observatory reports 2,112 cases for Nicaragua in Jan-April 2021 (from La Prensa). La Prensa also reports an uptick in casket sales and burials, almost a doubling. The Johns Hopkins map reports only 6,898 cases and 181 deaths from Nicaragua, but that's probably government statistics that are frozen. Honduras and Costa Rica each have more than 200,000 cases and thousands of deaths. My guess is that there is a serious outbreak withut reliable statistics.

Just got back last night from Costa Rica, Liberia. We flew into Costa Rica, as a way to get into Nicaragua, since flights to Managua, Nicaragua are pretty tough right now . Did the reverse to get back out of Nicaragua as well.

Flew into Costa Rica, drove immediately to the Penas Blancas border and crossed to Nicaragua. A lot of planning, paper work, covid testing, and details were brutal, lot of greasing people to help us along the way, but it was well worth it. Scored the La Bamba swell that rolled through and waves were more than epic.

Even though we were in Costa less that 6 hours total bother ways, we still needed the Costa Rica insurance deal, which is a real easy to do and get. Had to do the Costa insurance thing twice as the moment we stepped into Nic' it expired and we had to redo it again to re-enter Costa on the way back.

Doing Costa right now alone is a piece cake. It's like 3 min of work to get the insurance. Not even a covid test needed to get into Costa, but you need one to get out, which is well orchestrated at the Costa Airport.

Again, doing Costa right now is super easy.

Hi 2L crew - for travel insurance, the rate is cheaper if you put in a lower trip cost. Trawick's rate are cheap if you put in $0 and just get the Covid-19 coverage. I recommend Travel Guard which also has an optional coverage just for lodging expenses in Costa Rica. It costs about $16.30. Insurance required in Costa Rica, Covid test within 3 days required to get into Nica, have to drop rental car off at border - cross - get one on the other side, reverse that rental process on the way back, and get a covid test before you can leave costa rica for the US. Vaccination status does not matter there or here regarding entry. Well I guess surfing is an adventure.

And before you leave you will have to get a Covid test, the antigen one, at least 3 days before you leave. You can do that now at the airport. Add 2 more hours to your get to the airport time! I'm here now and headed home. Plus my flight is delayed by 7 and a half hours. When you buy a cheap flight, get Covid insurance and a Covid test it's not cheap anymore. Add to that the limited flights and a major delay is possible. I'll come back when all this Covid shit is over. Not sooner.

Get trip insurance for 6 days, Costa for 6 days, get covid test, drive to border, drop rental off, cross border dragging our shit, get rental, drive to popoyo area, stay 7 days, get trip insurance for 1 day, drop rental off, cross border dragging our shit across, get rental, drive to airport, get covid test, fly home.

Fun times, but at least the swell is Solid the whole time.

Had to bail on the second half of my trip due to a broken hand, but my buddies are telling me that doing anything through NSR now is a horrible experience. Prices are jacked up, nickel and dimed to death on everything, and service is shit. Its like they want to lose surf tourism $$. Maybe just go at it completely on your own for that area, its easy to do, or hit up Shay's place at the boom if you want a total package. They never disappoint.

Anyone got info on El Salvador? Looks like flights are accessible and don't see the travel insurance requirement.

Just got back from El Salvador two weeks ago. Great trip. Seems to be the easiest and cheapest central american surf locale these days. Vaccination card or negative test gets you in and you need a negative test regardless of vaccination status to get back in the states. Can get one for $30 in San Salvador and you get your results in about an hour. Make sure you get the antigen test from Analiza or you'll be paying more. Stay at Hotel Michanti in El Zonte and tell Felipe that Porter sent you. Good central location close to a lot of good waves.
