It always helps that the flatness here is unrelenting.

That small wave did not make its way down to south florida. But I am ahead of the average. I got to surf six days in June. That's pretty good.

Tropical storm conditions are expected on San Andres on Friday,
along the Caribbean coasts of Costa Rica and Nicaragua within the Tropical Storm Warning areas late Friday, and are possible within the Tropical Storm Watch areas along the Pacific coasts of Costa Rica and Nicaragua on Saturday. |

Its looking like 4-6 (costa rican scale) on surfline. My guess is that will translate into 8-10 with occasional 12 in Santa Teresa.

How you could find anyone in Santa Teresa is the real mystery. She must have really done something to stand out. ------------------------- "One of the reasons why propaganda tries to get you to hate government is because it's the one existing institution in which people can participate to some extent and constrain tyrannical unaccountable power." When I got to Hawaii last month the S. shore was 8-10. I gave my broken toe a few days
rest, and afterr that - got on it when it was a much cleaner and more manageable 6-8. It don't stay 8-10 forever

Salsa Brava probably huge right now! I've surfed there before. What a great wave.

Tropical storm conditions are expected to reach the Tropical Storm Warning area along the Caribbean coasts of Nicaragua and Costa Rica by this evening and will spread westward to the Pacific coast within the warning areas by Saturday morning. Do you still need the travel insurance for CR ? Was not needed when I went the beginning of this year. We did have to test returning to US. Things have changed a bit since then. https://cr.usembassy.gov/covid-19-information/ ------------------------- Time and tide wait for no one..... Edited: 07/01/2022 at 07:30 PM by KP |

I always buy it for 1) trip cancellation and 2) medical evac. Better to ave it and not need it...

I learned a few trips ago that the "urgent" care in Santa Teresa is limited to asking if you have evac insurance. Not the same as an urgent here at all.
I have tried to stay in shape but we all know that not surfing for this length of time means not in surfing shape. I do get my ass kicked but I stay at it and pick my waves carefully. ------------------------- "One of the reasons why propaganda tries to get you to hate government is because it's the one existing institution in which people can participate to some extent and constrain tyrannical unaccountable power." She let her eyes deceive her. The place only looks like the end of the world. I would think of your pattern is yoga, maybe you hold off for a while. Also, that place is a yoga marijuana colony. May as well have had a neon sign.

Just got back. The swell angle was a bit too south to really make the place work. The wind was hard onshore after ten every day so Santa Teresa would have been a bust except that it's a peninsula and when it's onshore on one side, you just go to the other. The other side was really working. Definitely a softer side, more of a roller than a pitcher and heavy crowds for sets that take long lulls in between but really really good long waves. I rode a 6'10 feather fastback and it was maxed out on Sunday as the swell hit its highest point. We got there at 6:30 had to walk across 400' of jagged low tide rocks. It kept the crowd down. By 8 am there at least 40 people. Some ripped. I definitely backed out of many waves bc the Ticos were flexing. Still got plenty.
Santa Teresa is now jam packed. There is a mega super. The traffic is very bad every day. It's crowded. Nothing is cheap and you will be lucky to find tipicos for breakfast in town. There is a world class bakery in town but a cup of cafe con leche and a chocolate croissant was ten bucks. It's a very popular yoga spot and the dining is very good but never cheap. I'm not going to write the place off as consumed, corrupted and crappy but I am already seeing the place becoming a very high end yoga marijuana colony for the trustafarians to come and get tattooed and critical of everything they create. ------------------------- "One of the reasons why propaganda tries to get you to hate government is because it's the one existing institution in which people can participate to some extent and constrain tyrannical unaccountable power." Agree, we went in March and it was the first time I'd been back in 20 years. Its crowded, expensive and overexploited. The best local meal I had was at a hole in the wall "soda" near the airport. |

A rich Kraut gave me a house south of the first bridge going north. He introduced me to THE drug kingpin in that section of CR. The KP was building me a technical school. When I got home, things were pointing me away from there. The estranged son in law had been sniffing around and, despite all precautions, pregnatized her. A month after returning God put my company in my hands, and to top it off my grandson was born on the wife's birthday. HE works in mysterious ways. I'd have hated the way it turned from a samll pueblo into Yuppie paradise.

Chicken Joes was great. Best ceviche. Ex pulpa had great Pizza. But damn, its hard to watch your favorite place slowly impersonate Jaco.

unfortunately. there is a long, long list of formally wonderful places in CR that have befallen to this tragic fate. ------------------------- "Most people would die sooner than think; in fact, they do." - Bertrand Russell "Morality is doing what is right, regardless of what you are told.
