I was pissed off that whole game. So many opportunities to put in Bortles but they never did. Henne was sacked like 8 times, threw interceptions, just totally sucked. Down by 30+ points and he is still in with the final minute. BULLSHIT. Put Bortles in....

I want to see Bortles play as much as anyone but with that horrendous O Line I'm fine with him staying on the bench. 10 sacks for Henne. disgusting |

Bortles would have escaped the sacks and plus can throw down field whereas they couldn't blitz as much. Henne sucks as usual. Can't extend plays and when he does he throws into double coverage. He sucks. Start Bortles!

In preseason I heard a commentor speak their mind on Bortles, it was along the lines of the O-Line being weak, Bortles being young, and the need to keep him healthy in the rebuilding year. From those remarks, it doesnt sound like the Jag's will go far this year but will (hopefully) be better in 2015 with a more refined healthy NFL quarterback. It'd hurt to see their first rounder be sidelined from the cumulation of10 sacks per game. ------------------------- |

I'm used to watching Henne suck being a lifelong Dolphins fan. I do agree Bortles would've escaped half those sacks but still, Jags OLine is god awful. It's tough watching any of these Florida teams play. Jax destroyed, Fins looks terrible in Buffalo, and the Bucs, lost with a 10 second run off to a 3rd string QB from the Rams! |

CentroDavo ..... don't let your desire to see your boy play QB in the NFofL be a detriment to his long term success. His time will come, but throwing him to the wolfs this early (and with one of the worst O-lines in the league) is not wise.
The defense is not much better .... the Jagwads were down 21-zip mid way through the 2nd qtr, forcing them into a must throw "offense" ..... that gave the green light to the pass rush ------------------------- "Most people would die sooner than think; in fact, they do." - Bertrand Russell "Morality is doing what is right, regardless of what you are told. Their D has given up 75 points in the past 6 quarters. Bradley didn't name a starting QB against Indy. I still believe it's Henne with the nod, but this does lead me to believe Bortles will be in by week 6. Prior to this loss, Bradley would always say Henne was their guy this season. |

I just want to see good football. Chad Henne is not good football.
Down 30 points late in the 4th would have been a perfect time to insert Bortles. I guarantee it Blake is ready. The defense can't pass rush as much as Bortles can take off and run. Henne just sux. Didn't like him at the Dolphins either. He just does not have "it". Bortles does. He was running for his life last year as well @UCF and won 12 games with his heroics. He could do the same at Jax if given a chance. Colts at Jax next weekend. |

Bortles does. He was running for his life last year as well @UCF and won 12 games with his heroics. He could do the same at Jax if given a chance. Come on Dave, this ain't the NCAA. Some other winning QB who could run at the college level didn't fare so well in the NFL, and I'm sure you remember who I'm talking about. I'd love to see Bortles play as well, but I'm more interested in seeing him succeed. One analyst's opinion piece I read about Tebow said no team wanted a player the fans were going to irrationally pressure management into playing. The Jags will figure it out soon enough... (Or maybe not, seeing as how they took Henne, lol...) |

Bortles isn't a running QB. Nor, did I say NCAA is as good as the NFL. However, Bortles is excellent on escaping pressure and extending the play. We saw that on every jag preseason game. Bortles is way better than Henne at this point. He would do better. I watched every snap of Bortles preseason. He out performed Henne. 0-2 and Henne sucks. It is that obvious. Time to start Bortles. Tebow's problem was he couldn't hit the side of a barn. Bortles can. He extends plays and can throw it deep, short, and can scramble when he needs to. Henne can't do any of that. I'm not saying the Jags would be instantly a winner but it would be much better for the team and gives a chance to win. Down 30 points and you don't even give Bortles playing time? I don't get it. If you go read those jag fan forums, neither do they.

Good points too. It might be demoralizing though to throw Blake in there with such shitty support, as well as risking injury. I think the Jags consider this a throwaway season as well as a rebuilding season. They have to lose a few more to cement their case for the QB switch, get to where no team views them as a threat, and position themselves for a high draft pick next year.
And, btw, the 2nd string QB is always the most popular player on a losing team ! Ain't that the truth (him and Rudy!) |

All on Gus. Jax just lives in fear after the whole Gabbert thing. Carr is out there, starting in place of a veteran. Sure Bortles is going to have bad games, but let's get them out of the system this year and he'll have some experience under his belt for next. |

Tom Coughlin "We need a culture change"
By Sam Kouvaris - Sports Director Posted: 5:54 PM, March 27, 2017 In his three months in charge of the football team, Coughlin has insisted on competition across the board: except at quarterback. He is giving Blake Bortles a chance to be the starter based on what he's see in Bortles whole body of work since coming out of UCF. "We think he's the player. We believe that. Who knows?" he explained. But he did give himself and out, saying the draft could present some interesting options with the 4th pick. "If there's a quarterback there we'd have to think about it. Competition is good for everybody," he noted. http://www.news4jax.com/sports...-need-a-culture-change |

Bortles has one more year (if not a few games) to prove himself. Otherwise I can see him getting benched and 5th year option voided.
But, that is good in my opinion. It has been so hard to watch the jags. I don't know how jags fans do it. TRADE BORTLES!!! LOL |

Jaguars stick with QB Blake Bortles, draft offensive help
By MARK LONG - Apr. 29, 2017 7:40 PM EDT JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (AP) - Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback Blake Bortles is getting another chance to turn his career around - and seemingly without competition. The Jaguars opted not to select a quarterback during the three-day NFL draft, a somewhat surprising decision considering Bortles' continued struggles and the addition of Tom Coughlin as the team's executive vice president of football operations. The 25-year-old Bortles returned to California last month to work on his mechanics, hoping to improve his accuracy and efficiency, and surely needs to refine his pre-snap reads and post-snap decisions. "I think you guys know how we feel about Blake," said general manager Dave Caldwell, who drafted Bortles with the third pick in 2014. "We've got a lot of new eyes on Blake from a new coaching staff and have gotten good feedback from those guys, guys that haven't been around and who don't have anything vested in the kid. We still think ... he's got a lot of room to improve." http://pro32.ap.org/article/ja...s-draft-offensive-help |

Jaguars pick up fifth-year option on QB Blake Bortles
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- The Jaguars have picked up the fifth-year option on quarterback Blake Bortles, the team announced Monday. The move is a bit of a surprise considering the step back Bortles took in 2016 after his breakout season in 2015. Bortles' salary for 2018 will now be approximately $20 million (the average of the top 10 highest-paid quarterbacks), and it is guaranteed for injury only until the first day of the 2018 league year in March, when it becomes fully guaranteed. That offers the Jaguars some protection if Bortles does rebound in 2017. If he doesn't, they can still cut him before the 2018 league year begins without owing him anything unless he suffers a serious injury. "This is a smart business decision for the team for several reasons," Tom Coughlin, the Jaguars' executive vice president of football operations, said in a statement. "It makes sense for us going forward and it's good for Blake and for the Jaguars." http://www.espn.com/nfl/story/...rterback-blake-bortles |

"While the Bortles era certainly wasn't good, it was very fun for some big chunks of it and I think Blake as a person, because of his personality, will always be remembered fondly." True statement. It would have been nice to have had a hometown hero lead them to the Super Bowl, but, alas. $26.5M guaranteed will help to make the landing just a wee bit easier, but, as with all of thse few who have the passion and drive to excel at the highest levels of whatever, I am sure success was more important to him than money.

Hopefully he gets signed with a team with a pulse. Bortles does have flaws. He is a gunslinger. But, he is an competitor and on the right team can win a superbowl. Jags defense took a major hit. 3 starting OL on injured reserve. WR depleted. RB kinda good if playing. Owner wants to move team to Londaon. Jags suck. I hated the Jags before they drafted bortles and struggled with liking them. Bortles does share the blame though. Hopefully he can move on graciously.

I do watch other football other than UCF. He wasn't terrible, maybe inconsistent, but his supporting cast last year was dismal/injured. He got Blaine Gabbort'd. A new OC every year. Jags is where qbs go to die. Byron Leftwich, David Garrard, Blaine Gabbert and Blake Bortles, also Say hello Chad Henne. Proof will be Nick Foles in 2019.
I am a UCF homer though. No doubt about that and Blake was THE ONLY REASON i was following the jags. Glad I don't have to anymore. That organization and team suck. The London Jaguars! |

Remember back to when I warned you to not call for starting Bortles during his rookie season .... cause the O-line sucked (and pretty much still does) and that he would get his brains sacked out and get all gun shy and basically ruin him?? You are correct the the revolving door of OC's & QB coaches was also a major detriment. Interestingly ..... all I hear from my JagFans ( and I lived in Jax Bch for 22 years) is deafening silence about the Foles trade / signing. ------------------------- "Most people would die sooner than think; in fact, they do." - Bertrand Russell "Morality is doing what is right, regardless of what you are told. We knew his release was coming. He put his house on the market about a couple of months ago, it's in South Jax Beach, beachfront, with his own access up to the sand. Kinda modest actually, for as much money he had. I think it a spot I used to surf, but it's pretty covered up. I read that once people knew that he lived there they would knock on his door and ask him to drink with them, or try to chat with him while he was hanging out on his deck. Bortles was/is cool. Florida boy. Would have loved for it to work out, but we can't develop NFL QBs in Jax. Just a fact of life.
Good luck to him
