Pushing this over from the Surf Forum.

SCTPO Interactive Roadway Usage map that accepts user input and public comment. If you want to Effect change this is an effort by the SCTPO to let you have input.

Kittelson is the current Transportation Engineering firm Used by the county to do the P&E Studies.

So near St. Marks, Someone made a mark and summed it up nicely "The signs placed on the lines of the road lanes on A1A at all the pedestrian cross walks are very Unsafe. Vehicles are hitting them all the time, every day, causing them and other vehicles to swerve. Trucks, SCAT buses, lawn service & boat trailers can 'barely' fit thru them. They've been up less than a week and you can see how beat up they are already. PLEASE remove them ASAP before there is a major crash. Also, the yellow lights should be changed to red. Cars are not always stopping or try to rush thru. Red will make them stop."....I think in reality these comments go into the Dead Letter bucket , but who knows?....I can say that TWO PEDESTRIANS HAVE BEEN KILLED AT THIS LOCATION IN THE LAST FEW YEARS.....sad if they do nothing

The comments are part of Public Record and will be used by SCTPO to make further or modify transportation infrastructure improvements. The more the public comments the better. The new SCTPO leadership is interested in making Brevard transportation systems safer for all roadway users. Thus, the adoption of VISION ZERO going forward.

I don't see any comments on A1A about the pedestrian crossings. I might be missing it. What is the location?

The new flashing yellow light pedestrian crossings, with or without pinball bumpers, start south of 192 in Indiatlantic. There are quite a few 6-8 perhaps, more?, between 192 and Eau Gallie. They continue up through Satellite to Pineda, with another fairly dense cluster in Satellite proper near Publix and the HS. None on AF property or Cocoa Beach to the best of my recollection.

Cocoa beach has one at 4th North (no bowling pins), but I'm afraid to use it. I pushed the button once and people had no idea what to do.

Ok, to be clear. Individuals can load the map on their Internet enabled devices and make comments, add icons that represent roadway problems directly on the map. The SCTPO is collating the data. This is a Citizen Effort initiated by the SCTPO to gather the data via public input.

I cannot believe people would rater they be red lights. I think there are 19 pedestrian crossings between 5th ave and Pineda. And about the same amount of traffic signals. These people would like to double the number of red lights in this section of road? I walk up to the crosswalk, push the button, and wait for the cars to stop. It is really quite simple. I used to wait sometimes as long as a minute, to get across the road. If it was really busy, maybe even walking to the middle, and waiting for the other direction to clear, crossing in a two step process. Its amazing, all I have to do is push a button, and the cars stop. No waiting for the signal to change at the regular intersection. Learn how to use the flashing yellow people. And Cole, you are afraid to use it?

They need to just make it a push button red light.

Person needs to cross, they push the button and WAIT.

Lights then turn solid yellow, wait... and then red, like a stoplight.

NOW you can cross.

It should only activate if someone pushes the button needing to cross.

Everything else is dumb and dangerous.

Think about how long a light stays red to let pedestrians cross. The crosswalk signals as red lights would be a nightmare. I do not usually agree with government "improvements", but when it comes to getting pedestrians across A1A, this is a good system. If you are scared to use the new crosswalks, use the intersection with a traffic signal.

And Cole, you are afraid to use it?

One car ran through and the others nearly rear ended each other. People see red as stop and yellow as caution and I don't plan on being in the middle of the road as they are making up their minds as to what to do.

I don't understand your red light thing. If 19 people are crossing at the yellows, you will still be stopping 19 times. Right?

I am with you on the times at the red lights, it's gotten ridiculous. They need to take some of their new tax cash and hire an engineering firm to sync the traffic signals.

You are assuming it needs to be the same timing as a regular stop light. It doesn't. Just needs to be like it is now, except yellow, then red. and only activated by a pedestrain needing to cross.

..and get rid of the bowling pins

I started using the crosswalk when a clear shot was not available and endless cars are coming from both N & S..For about 3 weeks...NOPE not anymore almost got mowed down recently by the very last lane..All 3 lane stopped but the last one..a car was coming a just did not stop...I watched from the middle of the walk to see what he was going to do, blew right threw, not even sure he tapped his brakes..too much traffic now on A1A, will only get worse...

yep thats why i think it needs to work like a stoplight.

Randy Fine is an ass, but he is correct when says the only color drivers respond to is red.

Plus it would allow them to get rid of those ridiculous bowling pins.

Yellow is caution. Red is stop. "Caution" speed through a crosswalk? That's not really gonna work.
